Moore Concedes to Bolduc in New Hampshire Senate Race, Realizing G.O.P. Fears
Source: New York Times
Don Bolduc, a retired Army general and 2020 election denier, appears to have captured the Republican nomination for Senate in New Hampshire after his chief rival conceded early Wednesday.
The Associated Press has not yet called the race. As of 10 a.m. Eastern, Mr. Bolduc held a lead of about 1,300 votes over Chuck Morse, the president of the State Senate.
Mr. Morse was endorsed by Gov. Chris Sununu and helped by $4.5 million from national Republicans, who were worried that a victory by Mr. Bolduc would forfeit what they saw as a winnable seat in the quest for Senate control this fall.
Mr. Bolducs apparent victory will come as a relief to Democrats, who also assume he will be the weaker opponent against Senator Maggie Hassan, a first-term Democrat. She won in 2016 by about 1,000 votes in purple New Hampshire but has been saddled with low job approval numbers. Four states New Hampshire, Arizona, Georgia and Nevada have vulnerable Democratic senators the party is aggressively defending to keep its hold on the Senate.

(25 posts)I was pretty uneasy when the DNC was helping fringe Republican candidates in the primaries. I just have a bad feeling it is going to come back and bite them in the rear end and it will have been a huge waste of money and resources.

(13,923 posts)Some are bombastic and spew the hate out loud. Others are more reserved and save it for behind the scenes work. But the policies are the same. The end results are the same. Liz Cheney celebrated the overturning of roe and her part in accomplishing that. Madison Cawthornes replacement is anti-choice, pro trump, and anti immigrant.
Defeating republicans IS defeating Trumpism. Their primary choices only matter tactically towards this end

(12,641 posts)I'm smack in the middle of GOP world & deal with the every day. And I know many who are nothing like trump or the right wingers. Some of them voted for Joe Biden. A lot of republicans in Kansas voted to KEEP abortion legal.
Lumping all together is just like what they do when they consider ALL democrats equally radical.

(13,923 posts)If they voted for him.. then voted for him again.. and then voted to select his hand picked candidates, and support only candidates that support the same policies that he advanced...
Yeah. The fact that many republicans are regretting what being a republican stands for is good. But if they continue to vote for it.. it means very little. And giving them a slightly more externally respectable version of it to put forward is not good for them or for us.

(12,641 posts)Kemp & Raffensberger both won their races without a runoff; kemp by more than 30 points. Trump came to GA several times to get them out 7 we were COVERED in ads against them. And while both are still republicans, they defied Dear Leader as we all know. But they still got the votes.
In other states I think it was a mistake for Dems to HELP the trump candidates because they seem "more beatable" in a general.
I say they should be defeated as soon as possible. And better if by their own voters.
But I think abortion is going to have a bigger impact in Nov than any other item

(31 posts)We moved to NH two years ago from VT to be closer to our granddaughter. Tuesday was the first time we voted in person since moving during the pandemic. We are both 65 and were probably the youngest there, along with being one of the few taking a Democratic ballot. There was a steady stream of voters all asking for Republican ballots. Most looked like they were going eeny meeny miney moe choosing candidates. I think it is an impossible message to get to older life long Republican voters that these candidates are the fringe and not the old guard Republican party. I am not sure they are informed other than they always have and will vote Republican. Bolduc might have won because of name recognition. There were signs everywhere.

(32,839 posts)In Pennsylvania we're seeing moderate GOP leaders coming out and supporting our Democratic candidate (Josh Shapiro) because the GOP candidate (Doug Mastriano) is rightwing ChumpHumping Nazi. This is our gubernatorial race I'm talking about, but still it's the same idea.
When the GOP candidate is too crazy or too rightwing, the moderate Republicans are leaning away. They're either voting D or they're going to stay home and not vote.
Just hang in there and support your candidates. It's a major opportunity and you must get out the vote!
