Russians hit dam in Kryvyi Rih with missiles, Zelenskyy accuses enemy of 'trying to sow panic'

Source: New Voice of Ukraine via Yahoo

Sources in the city, which is in southeast-central Ukraine, said seven cruise missiles slammed into the east end of the dam at around 5.05 p.m., just as air raid sirens began to wail. Later reports updated the number of missiles to eight.

Video of the results of the strike was soon posted on social media, showing extensive damage to a building and part of the dam structure. Another video showed high levels of water rushing down the Inhulets River, which passes through Kryvyi Rih and snakes down to join the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast.

Posting on the Telegram messenger after the strike, Dnipropetrovsk Governor Valentin Reznichenko said there had been no casualties as a result of the attack on the dam, but that several structures had been seriously damaged and several districts of the city were left without water.

Ever since the Kharkiv counteroffensive, the Russians have been hitting infrastructure hard. Must be Russian desperation.

Maybe it's to repeat the dam ruptures that mucked up things for the Russians in the spring--force the Ukrainians to get stuck, whether for an offensive or just to thwart the ongoing counteroffensive.

Their focus will be civilian targets since the Russian military is incapable of winning against the Ukrainian military.

Evil bastards.

Putin and his commanders commit war crimes because they know they can. Ukraine may be able to regain its territory but it will never be able to bring Putin and the Russian commanders to justice.

Putin and his commanders will continue to commit war crimes unless and until the US and NATO makes it clear there will be consequences. So far, the US and NATO have only been willing to fight the Russians to the last Ukrainian. I have lost all hope that the US and NATO will ever take direct action to enforce international law.

Not only will the US and NATO not engage the Russians to stop war crimes, they forbid the Ukrainians to engage in counter battery fire across the Russian border at the threat of stopping to provide weapons. It is long past time to stop prohibiting the Ukrainians from protecting themselves from strikes originating across the Russian border.

As many as 22 streets in two districts of Kryvyi Rih are affected, city head Oleksandr Vilkul warned on Wednesday.

Officials said a water flow of 100 cubic metres per second was gushing from breaches, and water levels in the Inhulets river were rising dangerously.

Ukraine said the strike was revenge by Russia for its recent counter-attack.

President Volodymyr Zelensky described Russia as a "terrorist state".

"You are weaklings who fight civilians," Mr Zelensky, who was born in Kryvyi Rih, said in his late night address on Wednesday. "Scoundrels who, having escaped from the battlefield, are trying to do harm from somewhere far away," he added.
