IZIUM, Ukraine (AP) Some of the bodies unearthed from a mass burial site in a forest recaptured from Russian forces showed signs of torture, with their hands tied behinds their back and ropes around their necks, a Ukrainian prosecutor said Friday.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the site was an example of what the Russian occupation has led to.
The site, which police said contained 445 graves, was discovered close to Izium after a rapid counteroffensive by Ukrainian forces retook the northeastern city and much of the Kharkiv region, breaking what had largely become a stalemate in the nearly seven-month war.
To bolster the offensive, the Biden administration announced another $600 million package of military aid Thursday for Ukraine, including more of the weaponry that has helped its troops seize the momentum.

IZIUM, Ukraine (AP) Ukrainian authorities were expected to begin recovering bodies Friday from a mass burial site in a forest recaptured from Russian forces, a delicate task that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said would help show the world what the Russian occupation has led to.
The site, containing hundreds of graves, was discovered close to Izium after a rapid counteroffensive by Ukrainian forces retook the northeastern city and much of the Kharkiv region, breaking what had largely become a stalemate in the nearly seven-month war.
To bolster the offensive, the Biden administration announced another $600 million package of military aid Thursday for Ukraine, including more of the weaponry that has helped its troops seize the momentum.
Associated Press journalists who visited the burial site Thursday saw graves amid the pine trees, marked with simple wooden crosses. Most were numbered and the count went into the 400s.

(2,220 posts)Seriously, Russia is trying to destroy America, I don't mean hurt or weaken, I mean destroy. To do so they are supporting conservatives.
No insane gun rights in Russia, but they bought the NRA and used it to push the Repubs far, far right. I wonder how many mega churches have Russian assets as their leaders? I am guessing, most as a rough number. I wonder if overturning Roe is a simple decision for Republicans and the like. Someone flashes their compromat and suddenly Republican resistance to functional US government becomes confirmed.

(70,635 posts)..... and the 2016 RNC's platform in order to make it more pro Putin and less in support of Ukraine's
ongoing war with Russia.
Mueller asked Trump about 2016 RNC platform change regarding Ukraine:
The platform revision occurred as the Republican National Convention got underway in Cleveland. On July 18, party insiders took the unusual step of watering down its formal position on whether the U.S. should help protect Ukraine from Russian incursions a move viewed as a surprising concession to the Russian government at a time of tension in Ukraine.
The platform change took place during the Republican convention organized by then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. Manafort had previously worked for a pro-Russian Ukrainian political party.

.... the 10 solid obstruction of justice charges against Trump from Mueller were all about blocking
information about Trump and Russia, and surprise but a bunch of the classified documents that
Trump stole from the government were about Trump and Russia and those documents have now
gone missing.
BTW 2,000 + proven contacts between Putin's Alfa Bank and a computer server in Lititz, PA that
was part of the Trump Campaign.

(16,803 posts)delay to indict, now certain to be well after mid-terms at which point the 1/6 Committee will cease to be if GOP controls. It's almost as if they don't want us to know the truth. Do I need a sarcasm emoji? It's true though

The Trump Organization, the FBI (it looks like there was a Trump/Russian mole inside of the
NYC's FBI office), law enforcement, the military, our courts, facebook, and much of the media
(the NY Times ran a non stop hit job on HRC and "her emails" in 2016).
I think the US Senate's intel committee's report covers a lot of what is in the Mueller Report.

(70,635 posts)I don't know but that report is pretty damning. Just remember every time a republican or
somebody from Fox or something like it or some hate talker brings up "Hunter's Laptop"
they are repeating a Vlad/Russian produced talking point.

(14,178 posts)I think it comes down to each person having to make up their own minds of what is fact and what is fiction. Based on a lot of different criteria.
Where the sources come from.
How many varied sources.
How much photo and video evidence they gather. (The more they have, the less chance to regard it as doctored.)
How much witness evidence they gather.
Also taking into account the accused past behaviour. (And history of both similar brutality, and of lying)
But I think the truth will eventually come out, and accepted by most. It may take a decade to sort out all of Putin's war crimes, but once the fog evaporates, long after Russia has retreated, we will have a clearer picture.
For now, in the present, we just weigh those variables, and decide ourselves. Personally, I have to think this has to be directly related to Russia's occupation of the area. The Hows and Whys are still to come.
