Photos show 10-mile line at Russian border as many flee mobilization
Source: Washington Post
The line of cars and trucks trying to leave formed at a crossing point on the Russian side of the border, according to U.S.-based firm Maxar Technologies, which released the photos on Monday. The traffic jam likely continued further to the north of the imaged area, the U.S.-based firm said. Aerial photos from the company show vehicles snaking into another long line near Russias border with Mongolia.
Cars have also lined up at Russias borders with Finland and Kazakhstan since last week, when Putin announced a call-up of hundreds of thousands of reservists to fight in the Kremlins faltering war in Ukraine. It marks Russias first military mobilization since World War II.
Soon after the speech, tickets sold out to the few cities that still have direct flights from Russia, and Google searches rose for queries like how to leave Russia.

Not clear why Russian authorities are letting people (at least males) leave.

(14,966 posts)people as they attempt to leave... Why search them out when you can get them to come to you?

(14,966 posts)Gotta sneak across somewhere away from a checkpoint and take your chances with the other side's immigration system and their punishments, I guess.
Are their neighbors going to forcibly repatriate "illegal" immigrants?

(36,055 posts)I didn't read any of what you've asked, but hope there will be some that somehow sneak through. Also hoping that if they conscript and get sent to the front, they can still surrender.
Either way, there goes the pro-Putin vote.
I can't imagine anyone from Georgia or Finland calling the Russian authorities about anything. They hate the Russian government more than Russians do. The Chinese police would, which is probably why nobody's crossing there.

(111,256 posts)The best and brightest are getting the hell out, any way they can. Most of them are educated and skilled and taking those things and running. Russia is not going to recover from Putin's sheer idiocy for a very, very long time.
No one is going back until it is a place they want to go.
