A Tennessee man who dragged a police officer into a mob of rioters, initiating one of the most harrowing acts of violence during the U.S. Capitol attack, was sentenced on Thursday to more than seven years years in prison.
Albuquerque Cosper Head declined to address the court before U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson sentenced him to seven years and six months of imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release. The judge said Head was responsible for some of the darkest acts committed on one of our nations darkest days.
Head's prison sentence is six months shy of the statutory maximum in his case. It's also the second-longest so far among hundreds of cases arising from the Capitol siege on Jan. 6, 2021, when a mob of Trump supporters stormed the building as Congress prepared to certify President Joe Biden's electoral victory.
The dark shadow of tyranny unfortunately has not gone away, Jackson said. There are people who are still disseminating the lie that the election was stolen. Theyre doing it today. And the people who are stoking that anger for their own selfish purposes, they need to think about the havoc theyve wreaked, the lives theyve ruined.

(23,297 posts)He stayed awake all night, imagining himself being applauded by deplorables. Maybe tfg himself would invite him on stage at one of his Nazi rallies and give him a 'freedom' medal. The video he took of himself beating a cop with a maga flag would be historically valuable, celebrating the day he and other crazies 'saved' the country. I hope he hangs himself in prison.

(10,252 posts)A much better outcome will be a 6 x 10 gray cell with nothing to do except look at the walls, listen all night to other cons yelling, crying, swearing, etc. There will be some cons who would love the notoriety of shoving a shiv between his ribs, and others who would make him their bitch. The best outcome would be if he met a wise con, who helped him understand that prison is the consequences of his very own actions. But the chances of him having an epiphany realization are probably slim and none. Makes me very sad that people like him are so crazy.

Realistically, though, can Trump pardon this sociopath if he becomes POTUS again? Of course, if Rs take over Congress, they'll find a way to pass a law allowing Pissolini to control everything with his mind.

(2,809 posts)Not far. Not far at all. It is the norm for so many of MAGA. It comprises half of their "patriotism" is the thought of TFG doing crimes and getting away with it as a cockneyed way of justifying acting on their worst drunken and/or spun worst impulses of the past.
I grew up in teen years with dozens of this exact latent ilk- praying to some diety on Sundays since some religious leader convinces tham their sins are all washed away now. Clean slate. But their victims are still raped, PTSD'd and sometimes still dead.

I say that bc the cruel, lying oaf loves to hear himself talk in front of crowds traveling here, and there all over. Being stuck in one placebmight drive more batty. He (I'd assume) couldn't hop from FLA, to NY, to NJ I hope!!!!!

(16,514 posts)When my nephew got out of jail after serving time for a felony, my BIL had to get rid of his own gun that he'd had for years before nephew could move in with his parents. Nephew was not even allowed to live under the same roof with any kind of firearm, no matter who the owner was.
Here's an odd thing, though: according to my sister, they were also required to get their dog neutered before nephew could move in with them. I never did hear the explanation for that, but I was very pleased to hear that he was forced to get that dog snipped. He had been dragging his feet about it for too long.

(87 posts)One possible reason for requiring the dog to be neutered is that neutering reduces the amount of testosterone the dog produces - in turn reducing aggressive/violent behaviors. So it could be the courts were, in some fashion, attempting to avoid the ability to weaponize the dog.
Ive never heard of this before, but that is the only reason I can think of they would require that. As an animal advocate I am interested into reading his state statutes.
I believe all states restrict gun possession of parolees
. Many dont allow them in the same house. My brother has a child with a past. Where he lived, he was able to keep his hunting rifles under lock and key in a gun safe and still have his child live with him. However, if he had them, he would have had to get rid of handguns and things like that though.

(16,514 posts)The gun BIL had to get rid of was a hunting rifle. He did not have a gun safe.

(1,544 posts)I live in rural VA, near the Northern Neck Regional Jail. (FYI: VA has a system of regional jails, mostly in rural areas. Our small rural counties cannot afford our own jails, so, several counties support a regional jail -- Northern Neck Regional serves my county. The VA "Northern Neck" is a peninsula of six rural counties between the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers, bordering on the Chesapeake Bay,)
Now, for the rest of the story. A good number of federal prisoners are held in these regional jails awaiting trial or sentencing. NNeck Regional has been home to a dozen or so Jan 6 thugs who have become heroes to our local Tea Parties and Patriots. One of these groups, the "Northern Neck Patriots" is led by a guy who was tossed out of the Navy for refusing a COVID shot. He's a self-appointed "pastor" of a small church.
The NNeck Patriots have adopted the Jan 6 prisoners in the NNeck Regional Jail as a cause. They claim the Jan 6 thugs are being beaten in the jail, given dirty details, and the like. They visit the Jail regularly, give the warden fits, and generally make asses of themselves.
One of the Jan 6 thugs in NNeck Regional -- Chris Quaglin -- has made a martyr of himself claiming that he is glucose-intolerant and suffers from celiac disease; the Jail has him on a special diet (but he purchases honey buns, noodles, and other goodies from the jail commissary -- not exactly a celiac disease diet).
Albuquerque Head is one of the thugs in NNeck Regional who is being championed by the "patriots". I'll make certain they all know about his sentence.
