Twitter adds fact-check to Biden White House's tweet bragging about Social Security's COLA of 8.7%
Source: Market Watch
A White House tweet on Tuesday taking credit for the upcoming big cost-of-living adjustment for Social Security benefits drew a clarification from Twitter, along with criticism from Republicans.
The White House then deleted the tweet on Wednesday, with press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre saying officials did that because it was not complete and lacked relevant information.
Seniors are getting the biggest increase in their Social Security checks in 10 years through President Bidens leadership, the White House said in the tweet.
Twitter appended a note to the post on its social-networking service, pointing out that the large benefit increase is an automatic adjustment thats based on the rate of inflation and required by law. That added context about the 2023 COLA of 8.7% is shown below.

(2,738 posts)Currently those fighting for democracy are urging us to stay and fight while those wanting to hit Musk in the wallet are urging that we go. The democracy defenders' argument is we should stay because all the journalists spend so much time there, which shapes the knowledge they have and agenda-setting they do.
One thing I've done to hit Musk in the pocketbook is to block advertisers.
After the elections I'll check out some other social media platforms and see what they are like.
I've tried counter.social. We'll see, there's some new places too.

I've never signed up for Twitter before (it's just not my thing, but I have no real criticism w/ the platform in and of itself), but if Musk keep on keepin' on as he is, then he's presenting a priori assurance I'll never sign up.

(51,550 posts)If the GOP was in charge, the COLA law would be repealed. Indeed, the entire Social Security program would be on the chopping block.
158 out of 212 House Republicans, including top GOP leadership Members Whip Scalise and Chair Stefanik, have called for slashing and privatizing Social Security, raising the retirement age to 70 and ending Medicare as we know it as part of the Republican Study Committee FY2023 budget.
So explain to me how that White House tweet was false.

(16,950 posts)took office. Haven't seen this much activity since before 2016. It's like President Obama created a recovery plan in 2008 and people worked on roads, water, sewer, other infrastructure until 2017, and it all came to a halt. And then on top of work slowing down, everyone got sick and we were using semi truck trailers as temporary morgues. And then a bunch of r magats attacked the country, but were fought off and now, thanks to President Biden creating a Covid recovery act, people are back to work paving, replacing water lines, all kinds of stuff and that's just here in Marietta, Oh.
But pile on President Biden for taking credit for something that is a law, which by the way, a**holes like scott and ron johnson want to eliminate. I hate the rw's.
