U.S. says Proud Boys 'did not stand back' to keep Trump in office
Source: Washington Post
Opening statements are underway in the trial of longtime Proud Boys Chairman Henry Enrique Tarrio and four other associates of the right-wing group charged with seditious conspiracy in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
For over an hour, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason McCullough showed jurors violent video and profane audio of the defendants, saying the evidence is overwhelming that they planned to keep President Donald Trump in power by force.
You will see the private communications, you will see the public statements, you will see their coordinated actions, you will see the celebration of the groups activities, they will attempt to cover their tracks, McCullough said. You will know by the way they took direct aim at the certification of the election results, this is the direct result of their actions.

(101,360 posts)It reads like a denial, after someone else accused them of "standing back to keep Trump in office".
What they're actually saying is "the Proud Boys were involved on Jan 6th". Which, as a way to describe an opening statement for a trial about whether they were involved, is underwhelming. "Prosecution continues to say trial is needed".

(2,373 posts)The writers put Tarrios actual first name, Enrique, in quotes, rather than his nickname, Henry, which would have been the correct way to do it (Enrique Henry Tarrio). Sloppy writing there.
