Ex-student gets 8 years for spying for Chinese government

Source: The Associated Press

A federal jury in Chicago in September convicted Ji Chaoqun, 31, of conspiracy to act as an agent of China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) without notifying the U.S. Attorney-General, acting as a spy in the US, and lying on a government form about his contacts with foreign agencies.

At one point China will detain an American citizen in order to execute a prisoner swap.

There seems to be two FBIs in the US. The FBI that tracks down spies, enforces Civil Rights, and neutralizes insurrectionists.

And then there is the other FBI which ignores Russian espionage in the US or allows Brett Kavanaugh a free ride into SCOTUS.

I've read up on why the CCP encourages students to study in the U.S., and that they're often expected to report to "entities" about what they learn as they move into different systems. A kind of HUMINT, it seems.

I can't find anything specific on "wu mao." Could you please explain more about them? Are they simply part of the 50 Cent Party?

They are normally university students or people in the 20s that sell their souls to the CCP for wu mao (5 mao) a post.

They have three forms of attack:

1: Attack you for not understanding China
2: Play what about-ism
3: Attack your country for trying to control China

Their goal isn't to defend the CCP, but to confused and muddy waters.

America was thick with spies from Russia, and still is!

China isn’t Americas foe, tens of billions a year in consumer goods imports proves that!

China is a partner more than a foe… the Pentagon and it’s Media are worried Russia won’t be a fit foil for 840 billion a years taxpayer money down the hatch.

that the Chinese believe you keep your family, friends and business partners close, your enemies closer.

So I'm not sure it's just the binary of partner more than foe. China is out to win and dominate the globe, and not through any open hostility, but through stealth. Partnerships tend to be temporary, regardless; and partnerships are often the money cover for ideological foes. Biden knows this, or he wouldn't spend hours on the phone with Xi Jinping.

of China's, massive or not, has been bought or reverse engineered on the shoulders of Western "investment" projects now labeled colonial exploitation. The East Africa Master Plan looks impressive. Yet, of all the railways intended for 9 countries, only one is operational.

Have you read of the British railway systems built during their Empire period? Have you read that Kenya is partnering with Britain right now to build more railway? When I visited Maputo, in Mozambique, I can't tell you how Mozambican tourism is built on proudly displaying the downtown government houses they use, their wealthy class's mansion, their professional district, all built by their former Portuguese masters. When I visited Cuba, twice, and rode in those rickety Chinese buses sold to its military for tourists, I saw a bit of Chinese engineering quality. Unlike former colonial masters whose home infrastructure is much better, one wonders if China's investments produce the same quality outside their home country.

The idea that only the West has been exploitative is a distortion. Sure, China is investing in "3rd world" development; most of those client states, having 'nationalized' older empire infrastructure, will try out a new "partner," and compare the the quality of infrastructure building between that partner and the old colonial masters. Recent Chinese debt based infrastructure projects will bear that out. When "investments" are sold as win-win, and then over time, turn win-lose, that's when the debtor's remorse sets in. By then, as in South Africa (Peru and Chile), the "investor" is in the halls of government. Minority controlled government.

China does infrastructure very very well, huge stock of quality engineers and professionals, world class……look at the stuff built in China…even a space station, done solo!

Look at the stuff Americans buying by the cargo ship load daily at Walmarts around the worlds,

China builds what the world wants, cheaply.

Recall Mao's Great Leap Forward. China's current good guy status got built on that. Sounds better, for now, but the whole enterprise in Africa isn't over yet.

Are we the good guys in modernization worldwide when we modernized our own nation on the backs of slaves and sharecroppers from 1619 until WWI?

No nation is clean. Read Outlaw Ocean and see how former colonies and Asian countries enrich themselves on the backs of slave labor across the oceans.

show how paranoid they are about wealth redistribution as being against their owner/donors' interests, given how little they pay attention to real CCP or wu mao activities in the U.S.

Even their "weaponized" Select Committee on Intelligence won't intelligently address China's "grooming" efforts here, as you put it, because their owner/donors are on the same ideological side as Xi Jinping -- fascism, whether it's Left or Right wing. They either just don't know it, or just don't care. I'd call that pretty successful grooming, even if they did use Swalwell's unintentional connection to some alleged Fang/spy/intern as pretext for not continuing him on the committee.

She did not like my criticism of the CCP and her Caucasian husband looked down at his shoes when she berated me. Behind her back, her husband later approached me and said that he agreed with me, but that I should "tone it down in front of her."

And there is a young Asian man in one of the bars I frequent. He sits by himself with his electronic devices on. I have never seen him talk to anyone. And the neighborhood is lily-white, so he stands out like a sore thumb.

Full disclosure: I lived in Chinatown for years, but never felt "paranoid" or "near-paranoid."

Thu Jan 26, 2023, 07:40 AM
Jan 2023

they really don't approach women because they are "shy."

I've watched men tap on things like Tantan and Momo trying to find women to talk to so they can come to the bar. But going up to a woman face to face rarely happens.

They watched me do it before I got married and if looks could kill, I'd be dead. Because I usually flirted with and spoke to the woman they wanted to but didn't have the spine to approach.

However, if a foreigner here does, be prepared for some frog looking Chinese man to come up to you and say something like "why are you speaking to my girlfriend" and the Chinese woman to look at the ground and say nothing. The man is trying to start a fight. My normally response was "I'm trying to get her to go to my bed. You have a problem with that" then stood up and looked around for is friends. Because I am 6'2" and built like a truck, they always backed down.

The person in your bar is probably doing the same thing. . .looking at American women and trying to find one online that will meet him because he's too "shy" to try.

Incel culture is strong here in China.

The individual in the bar certainly is different from my Asian friends (both Mandarin or Cantonese speaking). The explanation may be as simple as you say-- Incel member-- not Wu Mao. Would that explain some of the mass knife attacks in PRC?

The woman in my building certainly is Wu Mao-- CCP Brownshirt in a skirt.

As I see it, China is doing exactly the same kinds of things that we did in the last century. Who can blame them? They see this as "their century." I find it amusing that we Americans get our panties in such a wad over another country emulating us.
