El Salvador opens 40,000-inmate prison in 'war against gangs'

El Salvador has opened one of the world's largest prisons, which will hold 40,000 inmates as arrests soar in a government crackdown on violent crime.

The "Terrorism Confinement Centre" in Tecoluca has been completed in seven months to relieve some of the country's overcrowded jails.

According to Human Rights Watch (HRW), El Salvador is guilty of mass due process violations, severe prison overcrowding, and deaths in custody.

Oh, well. Better that, than in some Caymans account (where a lot of U.S. aid to Central America has been known to end up).

Just the logistics is enough to give me a headache; food, clothing, health care, sanitation, recreation, security, ....

How could you effectively beat that many prisoners on a regular basis? I guess you would have to hire some prisoners to do it for you.
