Sanders signs Arkansas trans care malpractice bill into law

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has signed into law legislation making it easier to sue providers of gender-affirming care for children, a move that could effectively reinstate a blocked ban on such care.
Sanders on Monday signed the new law, which wont take effect until this summer. It would allow anyone who received gender-affirming care as a minor to file a malpractice lawsuit against their doctor for up to 15 years after they turn 18. Under current Arkansas law, medical malpractice claims must be filed within two years of an injury.
Legal experts have said the change could close access to gender-affirming care for children by making it nearly impossible for providers to get malpractice insurance.
The new law is among a growing number of bills targeting transgender people, who have faced increasingly hostile rhetoric at statehouses. At least 175 bills targeting trans people have been introduced in statehouses so far this year, the most in a single year, according to the Human Rights Campaign.

(685 posts)Dickson (executive director Arkansas ACLU) urged Sanders to hear from trans youth and those who care from them before signing any more bills affecting the LGBTQ community.
Here is the problem. Neither Sanders nor any of the legislators that are passing these egregious laws care one whit about the people, that is children and their parents, and their care givers. Those children just exist as some sort of muddled idea of the OTHER that they can't conceive of in their very limited christian consciousness. They are a group of people that Sanders and her ilk don't know and more importantly don't want to know.
You see, those good christians have checked their magic book and now know everything they need to about about sex, and gender, and sexuality. Which means they don't know anything, but they do know that they hate the OTHER. Legislate them out of existence. And of course they are all over the love thy neighbor thing just so long as the neighbor thinks and looks just like them.
All hail ignorance!

(2,861 posts)aren't what I would call Christians. They are Christianists. The same way ISIS is Islamist. They are extremists, and very dangerous. These type of individuals SHOULD be categorized under a label such as we give to Islamist terrorists. And then they should share every terror list with their Islamist brethren.

At one point, Jesus was teaching about the importance of sexual fidelity in marriage. He talked about possible exceptions. The English translation says that he closed by mentioning that some are made into "eunuchs" (that is the word chosen by the King James translators), either by themselves or by others, and that some are actually born "eunuchs." He did not scorn or condemn any of these people. These fundamentalists just skip over any passage that contradicts the chosen dogma of their social group. When an acquaintance pontificated angrily on Facebook that EVERYBODY IS BORN EITHER MALE OR FEMALE, i quoted this scripture, and briefly mentioned the realities of XX/XY/XXY/XYY etc. gender variations, which I had learned in my speech therapy biology courses. Boy, were they ever boiling mad that I had done that! These fundamentalists read the Bible the way a stone skips over the water. Of course the Bible was written long ago, and we have only translations of it, but it sure does (both Old and New Testaments) have many recommendations of tolerance and generosity that are simply ignored by fundamentalists. At another time, a few decades ago, I was asked to read Matthew 25 aloud to a somewhat fundamentalist congregation. This chapter quotes Jesus telling a group that, at the Last Judgement, some people will be welcomed into Heaven who will be told, "Welcome! For I was hungry and you fed me, sick and you helped me," etc., and they will say essentially, "What are you talking about? We didn't know you." And the King will tell them, "You helped some people suffering from hunger and sickness (etc.), and you didn't know it, but suffering people are actually brothers/sisters to me, so you actually were helping me! So come on in!" I read it slowly, with expression and pertinent pauses. The fundy minister rushed to the pulpit to contradict this passage and reiterate their dogma. I left that church soon after.

(1,277 posts)So much needs to be done here. Our roads suck, the biggest employer seems to be Dollar General, there are empty buildings and stores in every town and the folks in LR keep making this state appear less and less attractive to progressive companies and people. Since January, our image has gone from awful to worse than awful, and Sanders, Raper(t) and the rest don't care, they're wallowing in it like pigs in a sty. Good luck attracting talented people!
