Utah governor signs legislation banning clinics from providing abortions

Source: NBC News

March 15, 2023, 10:59 PM EDT / Source: Associated Press

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s Republican Gov. Spencer Cox signed legislation Wednesday that will by next year ban clinics from providing abortions, setting off a rush of confusion among clinics, hospitals and prospective patients in the deeply Republican state.

Administrators from hospitals and clinics have not publicly detailed their plans to adapt to the new law, adding a layer of uncertainty on top of fear that, if clinics close, patients may not be able to access care at hospitals because of a variety of staffing and cost concerns.

With the law set to start taking effect as early as May 3, both the Planned Parenthood Association of Utah and the Utah Hospital Association declined to detail how the increasingly fraught legal landscape for providers in Utah will affect abortion access.

The turmoil mirrors developments in Republican strongholds throughout the United States that have taken shape since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade decision, transformed the legal landscape and prompted a raft of lawsuits in at least 21 states.

Forced birthers deep down want to kill women much like the literal witch hunters of the 1600s.

Their brain is fogged with religious dogma they want others to believe. They are religiously hysterical much like the little girls faking demonic spells in the Salem witch trials. They want blood to show their deep devotion to an imaginary power.

Like in the Salem witch trials, the witches, and a few innocents, must die to enforce their imaginary God's laws.

All because of nonsense like the "sanctity of life". They claim a fertilized egg is the start of human life when about 80% of those zygotes die in their attempt to turn into a fetus.

Yet, they eat other animals without a 2nd thought. They enforce the death penalty with a mild shrug. They let poor Americans die everyday from a lack of health care, homelessness, drugs and racist cops.

They don't for one minute believe life is sacred. They don't believe human life is special. They just want their imaginary witches to die.

The Nation published an interesting history of their linkage in 2020. I also remember reading some years ago that the head of the Southern Baptists praised Roe because it would save women’s lives. Not long after Roe became law, conservatives decided to use it as a political issue because their true issue was preserving white supremacy, but they could not openly campaign on that issue. Once elected based on the abortion issue, they could then pass laws privileging white people.

Today, the organizers and funders of the anti-abortion crowd know quite well that black women suffer maternal death at nearly three times the rate of white women. Hispanic women die about twice as often as white women. Perhaps I’m being too cynical, but I believe these groups think that they will maintain and even grow the number of white people in the US because denying abortion and reproductive care means that more black and brown women and babies will die.

“As sociologists Nicola Beisel and Tamara Kay wrote with regards to the criminalization of abortion in the late 19th century, “While laws regulating abortion would ultimately affect all women, physicians argued that middle-class, Anglo-Saxon married women were those obtaining abortions, and that their use of abortion to curtail childbearing threatened the Anglo-Saxon race.”
