Lance Reddick, 'The Wire' and 'John Wick' star, dies at 60

Source: AP

By MARK KENNEDY 14 minutes ago

NEW YORK (AP) — Lance Reddick, a character actor who specialized in intense, icy and possibly sinister authority figures on TV and film, including “The Wire,” “Fringe” and the “John Wick” franchise, has died. He was 60.

Reddick died “suddenly” Friday morning, his publicist Mia Hansen said in a statement, attributing his death to natural causes.

Wendell Pierce, Reddick’s co-star on “The Wire” paid tribute on Twitter. “A man of great strength and grace,” he wrote. “As talented a musician as he was an actor. The epitome of class.” “John Wick — Chapter Four” director Chad Stahelski and star Keanu Reeves said they dedicating the upcoming film to Reddick and were “deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss.”

Reddick was often put in a suit or a crisp uniform during his career, playing tall taciturn and elegant men of distinction. He was best known for his role as straight-laced Lt. Cedric Daniels on the hit HBO series “The Wire,” where his character was agonizingly trapped in the messy politics of the Baltimore police department.

He was hypnotic. If you have read any of Michael Connolly's "Bosch" novels since watching the HBO series, you know he fits the roll perfectly. Right down to the jaw grinding !

I can't help but think that for many, Covid is doing long-term damage to organs that give out suddenly. (Disclaimer: I don't know if that is what happened in his case.)

That sure described his small, one-episode-only role as a DC cop trying to track down anyone who might know a homeless man who froze to death on The National Mall.

This was in one of the most moving, astonishingly lovely episodes of “The West Wing”.

Reddick played the cop as smart, thorough, and mission-first. The character’s one mistake was failing to note that the homeless man was a Korean War veteran.

As the chief of LA Police, Irvin Irving. “Fucking Bosch.”

Well worth watching, with Titus Welliver as the titular character, Detective Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch.

Too young.

I haven't see the other shows.

Saw him in Fringe which I watched in full in '22, after not being able to see it past a part of S2 in it's original run.
He was great, and yeah, tall somewhat taciturn, intense, and elegant. His character barely really smiled so it's nice to see a photo where he's doing that.

Fly well, raven.

I remember him from Fringe, but he's also lent his voice to many many a video game and such, which is where I heard him the most playing Destiny 2.

Loved his character in the John Wick films.

Sorry to see him go so soon.
