Gov. Greg Abbott announces he will push to pardon Daniel Perry who was convicted of murder

Source: Austin-American Statesman

Less than 24 hours after a jury in Austin found Daniel Perry guilty of shooting to death a protester, Gov. Greg Abbott announced on social media Saturday that he would pardon the convicted killer as soon as a request "hits my desk."

The unprecedented effort, which Abbott announced to his 1 million followers on Twitter, came as Abbott faced growing calls from national conservative figures such as Fox News host Tucker Carlson and Kyle Rittenhouse, who was acquitted in the shooting deaths of two Wisconsin protesters in 2020, to act to urgently undo the conviction.

“Texas has one of the strongest ‘Stand your ground’ laws of self-defense that cannot be nullified by a jury or progressive district attorney,” Abbott said in a statement. “I will work as swiftly as Texas law allows regarding the pardon of Sgt. Perry.”

Abbott’s office did not return calls from the American-Statesman on Saturday seeking additional comment. The two-week trial, which included dozens of witnesses and much forensic evidence, was not broadcast. Abbott attended no portion of the trial.

RW Media circus focuses on the other guy with the gun but always omits that Daniel Perry had a history of stating he would love to shoot a BLM protester and omit that he drove his car into a crowd and omit that the other guy with the gun was not actually pointing it at Perry.

They also omit he was tried by a jury and found guilty.

Instead, it's about a poor white guy not being able to go shoot a BLM protester and get away with it. Kyle Rittenhouse part deuce.

Love for the DOJ to start an investigation into Abbott to see how much of a racist he really is. Should be a fairly short investigation as it's rather obvious.

One of the people who petitioned Abbott for this pardon was Rittenhouse.

little Mr. Rottenhouse is going to overstep himself and find himself in a very dark place. That is not a threat, just a statement of fact.

This will haunt him the rest of his life. Like the guy who shot the young teenager coming on a rainy night after getting candy in a mini mart in Florida who wore a hoodie.

looking over his shoulder. He has a target on both sides. I don't know who's providing his bodyguard now, but they'll dump it as soon as it's no longer useful.

What Fox wants, the fascist dogs do, Murdock-style!

The circumstances of the victim’s murder is incredibly tragic. Don’t see how the parole board would recommend a pardon, even in Texas.

Abbott is playing to the racists, as demanded by racists at Fox News, Texas Watch Division…same as it ever was.

The same reason Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner's murderers were charged in federal court with violation of civil rights. Mississippi courts would never charge nor convict them of murder. Things haven't changed much in the old south.

I know that the protester was white, but it was a BLM rally. Guess DeSantis is going to have to find a way to match or raise Abbott's Klanish behavior. Viable Republican presidential candidates can't look like they are running second or third in the racism race.

They might argue that the victim was denied his 2nd amendment rights, since he pointed a rifle at the Uber driver first, exercising his constitutional right to bear arms, but was then shot by someone claiming to be in fear for their life.

In Texas, that tends to make the white go away, if you know what I mean.

And they’re getting ready to put that cross on you”.
