A recent comment by a Montana Republican state lawmaker who sponsored legislation to ban gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors has gone viral and drawn backlash online.
State Rep. Kerri Seekins-Crowe, R-Billings, suggested during a floor debate that she would rather risk her daughter who she indicated was transgender and had suicidal ideations dying by suicide than allow her to transition.
"One of the big issues that we have heard today and we've talked about lately is that without surgery the risk of suicide goes way up. Well, I am one of those parents who lived with a daughter who was suicidal for three years," Seekins-Crowe said in her remarks in March. "Someone once asked me, 'Wouldn't I just do anything to help save her?' And I really had to think and the answer was, 'No.'"
"I was not going to give into her emotional manipulation because she was incapable of making those decisions and I had to make those decisions for her," Seekins-Crowe said................

It is so hard to believe that a mother would even think this --rather than help her child.
The mother needs help.
Someone once asked me wouldnt I just do anything to help save her ...& I really had to think..& my answer was NO
This is Rep KERRI SEEKINS-CROWE Billings MONTANA on how she would rather her transgender daughter commit suicide than transition

(33,384 posts)I don't see where she said explicitly that her daughter was Transgender.
She said that 1. without surgery, the risk of suicide for Trans kids goes up, then 2. her daughter was suicidal for 3 years, but she had a line for how far she'd go in "doing anything" to save her.
I can see that it's implied, but did she say it elsewhere more definitively?

i think it was msn. know it was google. I do wonder how her child is doing. All she's giving up is that the child was suicidal. I have not come across an instance where she specifically denied that gender dysphoria was an issue for the child. so i don't know.

(33,384 posts)because the headlines, posts and comments are all assuming she was denying Gender-Affirming Care. maybe she was, but that's not what she said.
she said she wasn't going to give in to her kid's emotional manipulations, which isn't 100% unreasonable.
I hope her daughter's OK now. adolescence is hard.

(1,043 posts)by sponsoring legislation, she is taking the choice from every other family. She is imposing her "choice" on all present and future families in Montana.
So "big government" of her.

(62,444 posts)She sure could have used that time much more productively getting to know her daughter.
Prayer makes it look like she is doing something while she does nothing. What a waste of a human.
Whatever happens I hope her daughter survives and thrives despite her crappy mother.

(36,887 posts)Eve was the first transgender - by creation.
For the Bible folks:::
Eve was the first transgender. Originally 100% male.
God was OK with it.

(6,017 posts)These are the sort of parents that cause LGBTQ teens to either run away from home as young as 13 or commit suicide. And as indicated, the parents - in fact the entire local subculture - is okay with it. Oh, they're not okay with suicide because that's a sin, but then at least the "sin" is on the teen and not the parents for being cruel and abusive.
