(13,523 posts)infrastructure, and this is a perfect example of why we need the money from that infrastructure bill that was passed. Now dont republicans want to cut money from the infrastructure bill?

(3,522 posts)The road there is brand new, as is the bridge. New as in BUILT this past year. It could be a flaw in construction. Right now, they think it may be caused by a sinkhole that appeared nearby shortly before this event.
Yes, we need to reinforce our infrastructure badly. But, this is not a good example of that need. Rather, this is either an act of God or an issue with construction, not age or dilapidation.
Happy Mothers' Day to all!

(2,195 posts)Was some of the rain in the area of enough intensity to aggravate the sinkhole or parts around the bridge?

LOS LUNAS, N.M.
Two people were rescued after a partial collapse of the Los Lunas River Bridge, east of the Rio Grande Saturday night, according to Los Lunas fire officials.
In an overnight update, Los Lunas Fire Chief John Gabaldon confirmed no other people were trapped or believed to be missing. Crews are also trying to confirm whether a sinkhole under a sidewalk near East Main Street and Edeal Road caused the collapse.
According to Gabaldon, East Main Street will be closed for much of Sunday. He says a Department of Transportation crew will be on the scene in the morning to determine if the sinkhole is threatening the road.
He also says a water line had to be shut off to prevent more problems if a pipe running through the sinkhole broke. He did not know yet how many homes the water outage affects.

(4,436 posts)That a waterline broke.
And after the waterline broke, a sinkhole formed.
And after the sinkhole formed, the bridge fell over.
