8 women join suit against Texas over abortion bans, claim their lives were put in danger

The original lawsuit was filed by the Center for Reproductive Rights in March.

By Nadine El-Bawab May 22, 2023, 7:30 AM

The Center for Reproductive Rights is expected to add eight more women to a lawsuit it filed against Texas over its abortion ban, claiming their lives were put at risk due to the law. This brings the total number of plaintiffs to 15.

The suit alleged that Texas' abortion bans have denied the plaintiffs and countless other pregnant people necessary and potentially life-saving medical care because physicians in the state fear liability, according to a draft of the complaint shared with ABC News.

Texas has several abortion laws in place, prohibiting all abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, except in medical emergencies, which the laws do not define. One of the bans — called SB8 — prohibits abortions after cardiac activity is detected, which kept several plaintiffs from accessing care despite their pregnancies being non-viable, according to a draft of the suit.

Under Texas' bans, it is a second-degree felony to perform or attempt an abortion, punishable by up to life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. The law also allows private citizens to sue anyone who "aids or abets" an abortion..............................................................

It takes a lot of courage for the women to file these lawsuits.

These legislators must be made to PAY for the harm they are doing. This crap must be shouted from the rooftops. “Pro-lifers” think this stuff doesn’t happen, it’s fake news.
I just read somewhere that a woman is paralyzed because she was septic from a miscarriage and the laws did not allow the hospital to treat her properly. Horrified.

I mean that sincerely. But I don’t hold hope that the reactionary, regressive, Christofascist judges in our courts will take this argument any more seriously than “the right to privacy.”

These are crimes against humanity worthy of trials in the Hague.

Which of course, since we're not signers, will not happen.

We could do what Germany did.

They criminalized fascism throughout their society.
They destroyed their National Socialist Party.

Y'all Qaeda's GOP is our National Socialist Party.

Which has SCOTUS.
They must be stopped.

Criminalize fascism, eliminate the GOP so that reason may rule.

What's more, Hogan says she was threatened with arrest if she left the hospital to seek care elsewhere, and she was kept there until she gave birth to her stillborn son in a hospital bathroom.

Heartbreaking.

Police can go to the wrong address and kill someone.

In both cases no one goes to prison, no one fined.

But a woman fears for her life and doctors can do nothing.

There is some laws and opinions that are FUBAR.
