Russia says it battles saboteurs in cross-border raid by pro-Ukraine forces
Source: NBC
Russia said on Monday it was battling a cross-border incursion by saboteurs who burst through the frontier from Ukraine, in what appeared to be one of the biggest attacks of its kind since the war began.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor of Russias Belgorod region adjacent to northeastern Ukraine, said the Russian army, border guards, presidential guards and FSB security service were taking measures to repel the raid.
No civilians had been harmed, and there was no evacuation under way, he said, describing reports of an evacuation as lies. Do not listen to our enemies, he said.
Earlier, the Telegram channel Baza, which is linked to Russias security services, published footage apparently showing a Ukrainian armored vehicle advancing on the border checkpoint. Though there have been other reports of cross-border raids, an infiltration using armored vehicles would appear to be unprecedented since the war began.

From the sounds of it, Russian partisans are raising quite a bit of hell on the border between Sumy oblast in Ukraine and Belgorad oblast in Russia. Social media covering the war is pretty abuzz this morning.

(7,525 posts)I suspect there is a decent amount of wink wink, nod nod going on here, much like the little green men fully decked out in Russian gear that showed up across all the government offices in Crimea back in 2014.
Ukraine likely isn't telling these partisans what to do, but they probably turn a blind eye to them when they are staging from Ukrainian territory.

(111,271 posts)Russians are going to get paranoid as hell, seeing Ukrainian saboteurs everywhere when it's Russians doing the deeds.
There are a lot of Russians with Ukrainian surnames, immigrants who fled Ukraine during Stalin's reign of terror. They are probably going to be at risk as the regime becomes more and more paranoid.
I hope I'm wrong, but minorities, like Ukrainians and other ethnic groups, are second class citizens there already.
