Delaware Sen. Tom Carper to retire from Senate at end of term
Source: The Hill
Carper, 76, made the news official during a press conference in Wilmington on Monday morning, where he ticked through the highlights of his career before saying that the time has come for him to retire from the upper chamber.
After a good deal of prayer and introspection and more than a few heart to heart conversations, we decided I should do neither, Carper said referring to a possible run next year and then riding off into the sunset. But rather, I should run through the tape in the next 20 months and finish the important work that my staff and I have begun on a wide range of fronts.

(129,084 posts)He's been in Congress before in the seat that Lisa has. It would be an interesting race to watch. I haven't heard much from her given the Senators (Carper and Coons) seem to get all the spotlight.

(2,186 posts)He's a good guy---and pretty friendly. I'd routinely bump into him at the Stanton ShopRite, the Brandywine YMCA, and at various running events (he is/was an avid runner and I used to run a lot more than I do now---but I jogged along with him for a bit at a half-marathon. But it will be a good opportunity for some up-and-comers.
I wish Matt Denn would run, but he's into a law firm and out of politics apparently. He was a great guy and great speaker--no BS. Former attorney general and Lt. Governor of Delaware. But there's lots of good candidates here.
