Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and 2024 Republican presidential contender, sharply criticized the partys top-polling candidates in a CNN town hall in Iowa on Sunday.

Haley explains federal role on abortion
Haley said she believes there is a federal role in restricting abortion rights. But she wouldnt directly answer questions about at what point in pregnancies she would seek to outlaw abortion.
Instead, Haley said she would seek a consensus that could clear the House and the Senates 60-vote threshold to end a filibuster.
She said she believes such a consensus measure would include banning late-term abortions, encouraging adoptions, making contraceptives more widely available and making clear that women who have abortions would not be jailed.
Cant we start there? Because what the politicos and what the media have done is theyve made you demonize the situation when its so personal that we have to humanize the situation, Haley said. Our goal should always be, how do we save as many babies as we can, and support as many mothers as we do it.
She said she is unapologetically pro-life because her husband was adopted and she had trouble having both of my children.
But, Haley added, I dont judge anyone for being pro-choice any more than I want them to judge me for being pro-life. ........................

Jamie Harrison makes a great comment. At this point--Nikki Haley does not have a chance at getting the nomination.
But her stance on abortion is important.
Folks who watched that Town Hall now know that Nikki Haley is just as extreme & disastrous as the other MAGA extremists running in the GOP primary.

This is a pretty pro-choice-y answer on abortion Nikki Haley has laid out. Ostensibly she is re-arguing for Roe. She flat out made the case for protecting women having abortions and not being punished for it. She said birth control should be accessible. This is NOT GOP play book.

@WordswithSteph
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley is not discussing, she is disgusting. She is ranting fueled by transphobia. And Jake Tapper is standing idly by, failing to challenge Haleys insinuation that one third of all teenage girls contemplated suicide last year because of the presence of trans athletes in their locker rooms.

(5,644 posts)don't want what they see as wishy-washy solutions to abortion-- they want outright bans. Even trump's wishy-washiness on this pissed them off.
Anyway, she's never going to excite the rabid GOP base enough to get the nomination.

A response that Ill answer that question when you ask Democrats if they want a 37 week limit
I saw that excerpt from on morning Joe, and make no mistake about it, if the opportunity presented itself she would ban abortion in a New York minute nationally.
She is against the ACA, Medicaid expansion, pro gun, opposes same-sex marriage, favors school vouchers, opposes green energy, etc. no matter how she tries to present herself, she is as right wing as they come

(23,222 posts)CNN is a media whore.
They have sold themselves to the highest bidder, prostituting their network to those who would wreck the historic vision of this country as a welcoming place where people can follow their dreams and find peace.
Eff 'em for giving Nim-RAT-a a platform.
