Senate GOP stages hearing walkout to protest Supreme Court-related subpoenas

Source: The Hill

Tempers exploded at a Senate Judiciary Committee meeting Thursday before Democrats voted to subpoena a major conservative donor and a prominent conservative activist linked to the Supreme Court’s ethics scandals.

The Republican members of the committee stormed out of the hearing room in the Hart Building shortly before Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) called a vote on authorizing the subpoenas.

The meeting came after weeks of partisan fighting among members of the Judiciary Committee over plans to subpoena conservative donor Harlan Crow and activist Leonard Leo, the co-chairman of the Federalist Society, in response to reporting by ProPublica that revealed the two men played roles in taking conservative Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito on luxury vacations.

If we let a few decent congresspeople investigate this, they will find out just how much ALL RETHUG OFFICIALS do it, and then there will be recalls and impeachments due to not actually doing the job they were sent up there to do, and fines... who wants that??

The Rs control the House, where impeachment happens, and they will not vote for it.

Without that, the Senate can't act to convict. Even if an impeachment somehow cleared the House, the Senate doesn't have the votes to boot out the criminal 6 on the USSC.

The country's four Supreme Court justices - down to that number because the RW opposition has blocked the replacement of the missing fifth one by the current center-left president - all have serious corruption cases against them in their home towns (stalled, of course).

Moreover, and among other things, they've been taking to invalidating longstanding congressionally-passed laws - replacing them with the very laws these bills replaced, covering for federal judges that were never confirmed (while forcing others who were, out), and even determining revenue-sharing percentages (like in the U.S., a strictly congressional prerogative).

So naturally, during the ongoing impeachment hearings the RW'ers walked out of the committee room - some kicking chairs and yelling profanities.

Why? Because the Supreme Court was always their end-run around any legislation they didn't like - as well as the one guarantee that their archenemy, Vice President Cristina Kirchner, could be railroaded no matter what.

"No evidence - but no doubt," as the latest ruling against her put it.

Suffice it to say, Trump reportedly expressed admiration for Argentina's discredited judiciary in his recent meetings with this kleptocrat pal Macri.

You can just hear him: "I wish we could have that here, Mauricio - that, I can tell you."

Including, as you can imagine, widespread eavesdropping against friends and foes alike - which got Macri indicted but then acquitted, thanks to his "napkin" judges.

And that's a cornerstone of Trumpian governance: napkin judges like Aileen, who'll rubber-stamp anything.

In return for a little $omething, of course.
