Group of swing state Muslims vows to ditch Biden in 2024 over his war stance

CHICAGO (AP) Muslim community leaders from several swing states pledged to withdraw support for U.S. President Joe Biden on Saturday at a conference in suburban Detroit, citing his refusal to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Democrats in Michigan have warned the White House that Bidens handling of the Israel-Hamas war could cost him enough support within the Arab American community to sway the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.
Leaders from Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, Nevada and Pennsylvania gathered behind a lectern that read Abandon Biden, ceasefire now in Dearborn, Michigan, the city with the largest concentration of Arab Americans in the United States.
The Health Ministry in Hamas-ruled Gaza on Saturday updated the death toll in the Israel-Hamas war to 15,200 Palestinians, roughly two-thirds of them women and minors. Some 1,200 Israelis have been killed, most during the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas that triggered the war.

Ask these folks who they voted for in 2016 and 2020.
Does the Abandon Biden movement realize if they succeed, that they and their loved ones will likely end up in internment camps?

(3,096 posts)I've heard do nothing but folks who grift around the edge of protests usually with some lame cash grab scam vending something now saying "Genocide Joe", which I know they didn't create. So I'm thinking this is a second wave in this whole manufactured 'crisis'. I am aware this is an actual crisis over there, but I suspect foreign money trying to shift the narrative pushed Hamas by providing them with ample resources and now all the usual suspects are pushing anti Biden angles.

Of course, this article is from the Republican-loving mainstream media, so I don't think it's true. Just their effort to try and get their beloved Trump back in the White House
Do they want to be deported? Put in camps?

I can understand why they are upset, but they have to know that, in failing to support Biden, they are cutting of their noses to spite their faces. A Trump presidency would be a disaster for all American Muslims. (as well as any other minority)
Some folks have a misconception of just how much actual influence that the President of the US has dealing with Israel. I believe that if Biden could stop the war he would, and sooner rather than later.

But somehow their snubbing of liberal values still gets them support from some people on our side because the only ones weve decided to worry about are Christian nationalists.

(11,078 posts)Many immigrants to this country who came here demanding greater economic, personal and religious freedoms paradoxically fail to appreciate the values of a liberal democracy, and the real meaning of the American Experiment.
Our complex and often uncomfortable system of pluralism has a price; if one demands certain individual rights, one must also afford others the same rights. Unfortunately, conservatives have historically exploited these conflicting reactionary impulses to their advantage.

Punishing Biden is not the most productive course of action. He doesn't have that much influence over Israeli policy but he's doing what he can with what he has. If Trump were president the Palestinian casualties would be way higher.

(17,910 posts)President Biden and his administration is working with other groups of people that hate each other, who want to see their enemies wiped off the face of the planet. Can anyone with an opinion about this heartbreaking destruction take religion out of the equation? See Israel as a nation? See Palestine as a nation? Because as long as religion is the dominant theme of the conflict, devout people will put their emotions in front of their pragmatism and the terrorism, defense and destruction of life and property will go on and on.
If Muslims in America think that withdrawing their support from President Biden will bring peace to the Middle East, their course of action will open the door to far worse dangers to all Muslims everywhere. If their are agnostic Arabs and Israelis, we need their presence in the negotiations and decisions. Religion has failed to solve the problems.

protesting Biden because he will not condemn the October 7 Hamas massacre/kidnapping of Israeli citizens....protesting Biden because Israel had the audacity to retaliate...punishing Biden because he is not the shadow prime minster of Israel and has only so much sway with the Israeli government...
the "Abandon Biden, Cease Fire" Muslims are American citizens and as American citizens, the fascistic alternative to Biden is a Muslim ban and concentration camps...well played, guys!

(1,453 posts)Biden very clearly called for a ceasefire contingent on releasing hostages.
A ceasefire, which is an agreement between two sides in a conflict, was negotiated between Hamas and Israel.
The ceasefire that was supported by Biden, negotiated with the help of the Biden administration, and was implemented was BROKEN BY HAMAS.
So, clearly, when Muslim groups say they want "ceasefire now" they don't actually mean they want a ceasefire. They want Israel to roll over and die.

(1,883 posts)Are you actually going through the same exact pain American Palestinians are going through watching the destruction of the homes of innocent relatives in Gaza? Because if not, maybe you should back off and let them process their pain without your condescending suggestions that they have no idea what they're saying or doing. Some of the responses here are just as knee-jerk emotional as the pledge not to support Biden.
I DEFINITELY WANT TRUMP IN PRISON AND NOT THE OVAL, but I also can sympathize with feeling unheard in a time of extreme crisis. There is time for healing this rift and I hope it does happen. I also hope that these people change their position, but I can do that and remain sympathetic without insulting their intelligence.
Sorry to be so strident, but really. Let's let them process. Please. You've seen the pictures by now.

(6,010 posts)... What if they do get Biden to help broker a ceasefire and - heaven forbid - even work on a two-state solution?
And then they throw all their support behind Biden? Wouldn't this threat have been worth it?
The election is 11 months from now. It doesn't hurt much for them to have their little protest right now (although I think they're extremely shortsighted). If Biden changes tack and comes out of this a hero, then it will have been worth it. He'd have stopped the killing and accomplished something absolutely fucking huge.
Lots of things can be accomplished when people's backs are against the wall.
I don't support this protest but it will be interesting to watch its effect.

(112,248 posts)First, they were mostly GOP before TFG, probably voted for him in 2016. It's a trap immigrants often fall into, the party that wears clothing made up of the US flag must be more American, which is what they aspire to be. I don't think they're that much of a voting bloc statewide, TBH, so let them suit themselves.
They'd just better take a long, hard look at what the GOP is really all about. They could find themselves deported just because they aren't Christian.

(424 posts)It doesn't just happen in our country, look at all the people that vote for Putin. Yes I know a significant portion of the vote is rigged but a huge chuck do actually like him. Look at Gaza, I understand why they voted for Hamas at first but then they continued to support them even though it was obvious Hamas wouldn't elevate their lives and would only do things like the attack that has now cost them dearly.
