Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) is calling on House Republicans to end their impeachment inquiry into President Biden following the indictment of the FBI informant at the center of the conferences allegations that the president accepted a bribe.
The statement from Raskin the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee came shortly after the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced charges against Alexander Smirnov, 43, based on accusations that he made up claims regarding Biden. He was charged with making a false statement and creating a false and fictitious record as part of the investigation being led by special counsel David Weiss.
Republicans have cited conversations Smirnov, previously known only as a confidential source, had with the FBI, in which he said the head of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma informed him that he paid Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, each $5 million in an effort to avoid scrutiny of his company. Those allegations are at the heart of the GOPs claim that the president accepted a bribe.
In a detailed indictment, Special Counsel David Weiss who was appointed by former President Donald Trump has demonstrated how key evidence at the heart of House Republicans impeachment inquiry is based on a lie, Raskin said. Special Counsel Weisss investigation is just the most recent to debunk the Ukraine-Burisma conspiracy theory at the heart of this fraudulent impeachment inquiry.

(22,974 posts)They print a story about Comer dropping the investigation when the real news is when did Comer know that Burisma was a lie, when did he know the FBI informant was a fraud? No way in hell that Comer only found out when his informant was arrested for lying to the FBI.
No the news should be that Comer needs to be investigated by the FBI, including investigated for his shell company.
He not only need to drop the impeachment, he needs to be removed as chair of the Oversight committee.
I will never click on The Hill.

I'll wait.
Trust me, I have never been a fan of that site but in the past month or so, they have gone above and beyond the broadcast and cable TV sites scooping news, whereas the CNNs and NBCs, CBSs, and ABCs are loathe to take a break from attacking Biden 24/7 with scurrilous headlines. Even AP gets into the slime action while updating their headlines and story copy every 10 minutes all day long.

(4,033 posts)A large number of Republicans involved in the impeachment had to know sooner than we've just found out that
the individual who they were depending upon for crucial testimony to make the crux of their case against Biden
was lying.
So the question then becomes: When did they know the guy was making it all up or even suspected that it was the case, what did they do about it, and why who was involved?
This whole thing stinks to high heaven; it always has, but now we have proof, at least proof in the form of an indictment against this individual and the entire impeachment case.
