WASHINGTON — Reflecting a war-weary nation, the Senate voted overwhelmingly Thursday for an accelerated withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan after more than a decade of fighting.

The strong bipartisan vote of 62-33 sends a clear message to President Obama and the military as they engage in high-stakes talks about the pace of drawing down the 68,000 U.S. troops, with a White House announcement expected within weeks.

4. This is a thread I want my name on; is this the beginning

5. End these expensive wars

If Big Oil isn't going to pony up the money to support the wars, which are probably really a fight for property rights to Caspian Sea oil, eff them. End the tax-supported property grab that Bush and Cheney set up for their buddies.

10. "Big Oil" is the greatest profit maker off the wars. All those Humvee's and tanks run on their oil.

6. More good news?

K&R

I'll take it! There's only 68,000 still over there? Why couldn't they just bring them home this Christmas and be done with it? Wouldn't it be wonderful? I know, I do way too much wishful thinking. But sooner than planned? Yeah!

8. This is very clever and I agree with the main

point of the Bill, but why did they attach military spending to this Bill! Are they trying to get around the sequestrian cuts? The Bill would be more acceptable if they detached the spending for the Fiscal Cliff talks. Quit being so sneaky unless you think the Administration is dumb.

12. Only about a decade late.

But I guess the imperial war machine needed something to do after Iraq.
