Tesla's Cybertrucks were 'rushed out,' are malfunctioning at astounding rate
Source: NY Post
Teslas long-delayed and pricey Cybertrucks are getting panned by furious owners for malfunctioning at an alarming rate just months after Elon Musks futuristic vehicle hit the road.
Tales of the stainless steel Cybertrucks dying after traveling just 1 mile, randomly hard-braking on a wide-open road and already showing rust spots, among other gripes, were shared in the Tesla Owners Club forum.
In a thread titled Worst delivery in my life (truck died in 5 minutes), a Southern California-based owner wrote that after taking his truck for a spin the same day it was delivered last month, the vehicle made it 1 mile down road, started getting steering error, flashing red screen, pulled off side of highway now the truck is dead and Im waiting for a tow truck.
Dealer couldnt do anything for me. It was great for 5 minutes. Tried everything, restarting, screen is stuck black and keeps beeping, the user added in the thread, first reported on by automotive news site Jalopnik...more

Aristus
(66,446 posts)I understand that they're supposed to be ugly; they are for killing, after all.
But tankers think they are beautiful because form follows function 100%. It has to. A tank can't have a pretty paint job, or beauty panels.
Anyway, just a thought from an old tanker.

(66,446 posts)My platoon sergeant when I was in Germany had a classic 1950's pick-up truck with a pearly-pink finish. At the end of the day, we used to pile in the back, just like in the movies, for a ride back to the barracks. Not a pick-up truck guy, but his was nice.

I can imagine this scene, one of the Tesla trucks (HAHA) Beverly Hillbillied, with Granny in her rocker with her gun etc. and a big old slobbery dog. That is likely the future of people in this country anyway. A couple of goats would look cute in this truck.

(9,500 posts)Excluding the structural support/frame and underbody, I thought most car companies decided the newer materials like carbon fiber for the body panels were better than steel because they don't rust and it is really the frame that is important when it comes to crash safety.
I think the only exterior panel of my car that is steel is the hood (I presume it has to be made of steel due to the amount of heat from the engine)
Maybe Elon was trying to court the survivalists? (Is the steel thick enought to stop small caliber bullets?)

I was doing research for a middle-school project on "Cars of the Future" and that article showed up in a literature search - the cool librarians at South Alabama got me ILL photocopies and I relied on the info heavily (I didn't see the color versions for years).
It wouldn't surprise me AT ALL if Elon once saw that same article and instead of just doing a report, tried to make it happen without doing any use-case research etc.
