Kristi Noem Suggests Biden's Dog Should Have Been Killed, Too
Source: New York Times (gift link)
Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota, already under fire for killing her familys 14-month-old dog and boasting about it, on Sunday took aim at another familys pet: Commander, President Bidens bite-prone German shepherd.
Appearing on CBSs Face the Nation, Ms. Noem, a Republican, suggested that Commander, who was banished from the White House last fall after bloodying a number of Secret Service agents, should also have been put down.
Joe Bidens dog has attacked 24 Secret Service people, she told her interviewer, Margaret Brennan. So how many people is enough people to be attacked and dangerously hurt before you make a decision on a dog?
Commander was sent to an undisclosed location after the Secret Service recorded 24 biting episodes involving him between October 2022 and July 2023, about half of which required medical attention.

If it werent for the negative publicity shed be a a Vice President candidate. Shes a Trump with (more) estrogen. Try as he may to be soft, unhealthy, and weak, Noem is corroding from the inside more than Orange Unappeal stinks from the outside.

(208,803 posts)I went to a local meeting last night and before it started those sitting near me started talking about their beloved animals. One guy started talking about his adorable little dog and a young woman said that she'd recently taken out a loan to pay for surgery on her cat's ear. And they both showed me photos. I consider that normal behavior.

Conservative farmers and such around here can be seen out and about every day driving around in their pickups, with their perfectly groomed little dog on their lap and/or with anywhere from one to three dogs of any larger breed in the the cab or back, or both. Even Republicans love their pets, and I have never heard anyone around here talk about doing what Psycho Kristi bragged about.
It's a real tell on her that she thought she would score points for that story, and her spinning for damage control is just making it exponentially worse, IMO. It's the only bright spot in this sordid tale. Her downfall is well deserved, but someone needs to take away her weapons. Who knows who she might kill next if she gets pissed off enough.
Rhiannon12866
(208,803 posts)And I got to know many of her friends. She joined a peace group there and invited me to accompany her and the group on their first trip to their "sister town" in the USSR in the late '80s. And these were experienced world travelers, almost all senior citizens, clearly liberal Democrats and I learned so much from them and loved them all as well.
And one attractive feature of this retirement community was that they welcomed pets. Whenever we visited we got to meet dogs on walks and in the part of the community for those who could no longer manage apartments there was a program they called "Noah's Oasis" where dogs lived on one hall and cats on another. When my grandmother finally moved there she was on a hall with dogs, so I brought treats, and she was able to "rent" a pet bird whose cage was cleaned and was fed by staff so all she had to do was enjoy "Amelia's" company.
And when I was there I got to see a project in the men's woodworking shop. They took in a stray cat who had kittens, so they built her a sturdy "house" which had a glass roof so residents could look in. And when they were ready, the kittens found homes in the community and the mama cat, too.
My point is that pets are popular everywhere, Democrats, Republicans, the old and the young. And Noem is now a national liability after shooting herself in the foot as she did. And I agree she needs to be relieved of her guns.
PatSeg
(48,244 posts)that is what normal people are like, regardless of political affiliation. Why on earth did she think her dog story would be viewed by voters as a positive one?
Rhiannon12866
(208,803 posts)And we know what he thinks of dogs. When they moved into the White House someone offered Barron a dog, like happened with the Obamas and Amy Carter, but TFG prohibited it. Which was certainly best for the dog.
PatSeg
(48,244 posts)Noem probably only sees them as useful for hunting dogs, not as pets or companions. If they don't serve her purpose, then they are expendable.
Though in her case, I believe there is more to it. Perhaps she needed an excuse to cruelly shoot a living creature. If the dog really was useless as a hunting dog, there were other options like finding another home for the dog. I'll bet she never even considered alternatives.
PatSeg
(48,244 posts)or perhaps she thought people wouldn't care. Obviously she is both cruel and stupid.

Nope, kristi, youre a crazed puppy-murdering liar who met the evil leader of North Korea, with the audacity to claim a 14 month old puppy is an adult dog. In human years, thats only 8. Its training was completely the responsibility of its owner. The owner must be punished for this poor training. Murdering it was only done to avoid further training it.
You have yet to be punished, kristi. It is only when youve been driven from politics that youll begin to understand how unwanted you are.
Commander, on the other hand, was so well trained to protect his master that nothing could be done to convince him otherwise. He was trained to guard against strangers. The endless parade of secret service agents clearly presented a stranger danger to his master, from his trained perspective.
Its interesting to observe how similar kristi noem and her puppy are. Both adored murder and mayhem. Both out of control. Both reckless and irresponsible. People are just like their dogs, because their dogs are just like them.

(4,174 posts)Putting a highly territorial dog in a situation where his territory was constantly being "challenged" was not a good fit. He simply didn't have the temperament for such a high-stress environment.
The solution is not to kill the dog, however. It's to take him out of the high-stress environment, which is what the Bidens did. That is responsible dog ownership.
They need to stop adopting GSDs and get a people-friendly breed that delights in meeting new best friends every hour of the day.

(1,170 posts)Politically, South Dakota might as well be Puerto Rico.
Traditionally, a vice president is usually chosen because they bring something specific to the ticket. They are attractive. They appear calm and prepared to take on the presidency if necessary. They are connected to an important state the party must win.
A voting bloc, a fresh face, a regional offset. Often a vice president choice is a politician from an important swing state like Wisconsin (speaker Ryan) or Indiana (Gov. Pence). Jack Kemp was a New Yorker, but a former NFL football quarterback and cabinet officer. Quayle was the senator from Indiana.
Palin was unusual in this regard, because she didn't bring a specific group of voters to the table (perhaps the crazies).
Trump has his side of the ticket sewed up. Noem gives him three electoral votes. I'm not seeing it.
