Johnson's Trump trip unsettles some Republicans: 'Tell me this isn't so'

Source: The Hill

05/18/24 6:00 AM ET

Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) decision to appear this week at former President Trump’s hush money trial in Manhattan is sparking new blowback from some House Republicans, who are questioning why he would inject himself so prominently in a case involving an alleged affair with a porn star.

These Republicans, who requested to speak anonymously to discuss the sensitive topic, are accusing Johnson — a devout Southern Baptist who built a career around the fight for Christian values and moral conservatism — of undermining the party’s family values image simply to ingratiate himself with Trump, the party’s presumptive presidential nominee.

“It’s clear that Johnson thinks that this is to his political advantage to be at the courthouse at the most salacious bits of detailed, pornographic testimony. I think he’s got to answer for that,” one House Republican told The Hill.

“It seems like an odd place for him to be given what he has said.”

Chump calls off Empty Green from her mission to sack Mike Johnson from the Speakership.

Johnson pays a visit to New York City and just happens to stroll past the courthouse while all the reporters were there for Chump's trial.

The most judgemental, hypocritical sect out there. The sect from which the Klan was born, used the Bible to support slavery, then segregation. All hell fire and Damnation and very short on doing what Jesus teaches.. They even think Catholics are not Christian. And the one that thinks Trump is God's chosen.. So Mike's behavior is not surprising, considered.

They should have hired the trio that played on the Titanic to join them in front of the courthouse.

They should have had them play Nearer My God to Thee as they took a knee and prayed to their neon God...and slow sink along with their captain.

Johnson showed up in NYC to support “his friend” during Trump’s trial where it has been shown that Trump slept with a porn star.

Pecker decided that a story about Trump and a porn star was too salacious for the National Enquirer, a trashy supermarket tabloid. Pecker said his largest retailer, Walmart (I think), would revolt if they published it.

Fascinating difference considering Johnson’s religious proclamations.

For the entirety of the GOP, that ship sailed already. The party worships Trump, defends Trump, adores Trump, and seeks to re-elect Trump. Who are these Republicans who think the GOP still has a legitimate family values image to protect?
