Maxine Dexter easily winning race to replace U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer

Source: Oregon Public Broadcasting

Oregon state Rep. Maxine Dexter appears set to become the Democratic nominee to replace U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer, in a vote that all but assures her a seat in Congress next year.

After a heated primary that saw a huge influx of national money, the critical care doctor and two-term state lawmaker was leading handily in early results Tuesday over her two chief opponents to represent the state’s 3rd Congressional District: former Multnomah County Commissioner Susheela Jayapal and Gresham City Councilor Eddy Morales.

Democrats hold a more than 3-to-1 registration advantage in the district, which stretches from the east side of Portland to Hood River. Dexter, who currently lives outside of the district after residing there for decades, has said she plans to move back across the Willamette River after winning the election.

The sheer quantity of wasted paper in her advertising blitz was daunting.

And the amount of money it took to make sure every mailbox was getting 3-4 mailers a day for over a week is also daunting. Someone put that money into this race and will surely be expecting a return on that investment.

Another example where the primary for an open seat in a safe D district is won by a “moderate” Democratic candidate who has taken boatloads of money from AIPAC.

This one was a little more personal since Jayapal’s sister Pramilla is part of the Squad.

Seriously.. I dont get it. This is the first time ive seen this level of spending in a localish race. How does anyone not see 4-5 fliers a day coming in all pounding the same points, and not get suspicious?
