Disney's feud with DeSantis is over -- and it's donating to Republicans again
Source: Business Insider
Since ending its feud with Florida's governor, Ron DeSantis, Disney has wasted no time donating to Republicans again.
The Walt Disney Comany gave more than $87,000 worth of in-kind, or nonmonetary, donations to political committees, including Republican lawmakers, in the months of April and May, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
That's an about-face for the House of Mouse, which had paused political donations as it brawled with DeSantis.
The yearslong feud first started in 2022 when Disney executives publicly opposed DeSantis' bill which has since been signed into law that restricts discussions of gender and sexual orientation in classrooms.

(48,507 posts)I supported their fight against DeSantis, but this is more the sort of behavior I expect from them. They present themselves as a "family friendly" company, but as you say, "At the end of the day, it's just about money." Also they're known to be lousy employers.

(4,524 posts)as long as that means squeezing every dollar they can out of the family.

(48,507 posts)And the biggest fantasy is that they actually care about families - only the families with money to spend.

(2,663 posts)They give money to Republicans because Democrats have little power in Florida.

they don't give money to Dems so that they keep losing . Seems pretty circular. So much corporate cowardice.

(2,663 posts)It's easier to pay off whoever is in power than try to get rid of them, especially considering how Florida is trending.

(24,546 posts)It's really sad what Florida has become under DeathSantis. It has really put me off even visiting Florida to go to WDW or elsewhere in the state, especially know I can get arrested if I use the "wrong" bathroom. If I ever have kids placed in the state (work-related), I'm not even sure I feel safe enough to go for that.

(27,019 posts)They've donated almost $1.5 million this year - almost all of it to Democrats.
And their second and third largest republican recipients were Nikki Haley and a PAC supporting her.

(4,170 posts)I wouldn't go to Disneyland or Disneyworld if somebody offered to pay my way. . . From what I hear, they charge exorbitant prices for every little thing and nickel & dime their customers to death. NOTHING about either place interests me in the least. In fact, both locations would represent the last thing I might want to do. . .
Lastly, the company donates to homophobes. . . I already dislike what they have to offer, so why PAY these shit heads to donate money to repigs?

(3,192 posts)After all they went through, they do this?! How stupid do you have to be to chase after money, land development grants, etc... which all just boils down to greed, avarice of the worst kind.
Walt is probably rolling over in his grave. At this point, I say Disney gets all it deserves to get... and DeSantis will eventually see it pays, and pays dearly for dissing him. I just hope Disney doesn't expect any of us to speak up for them this time! WE are not stupid!

(26,502 posts)They have to be pissed off at him and the rest of the Republicans for what they did so I wouldn't be surprised if the company might be funneling a shit ton of money through varies ways that are virtually untraceable into PACs.
