Jack Black axes tour over bandmate's Trump comment

Source: BBC News

Jack Black has said he’s cancelled the rest of the Tenacious D world tour after his bandmate Kyle Gass sparked an outcry with a comment about the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

The comedy rock group were on stage in Sydney, Australia, on Sunday when Gass was asked to make a wish after being presented with a cake for his 64th birthday.

He appeared to reply: "Don’t miss Trump next time."

In a statement on Instagram, Black said he was "blindsided" by the comment.

It is because as a public figure he knew perfectly well that it wasn't politic. Biden and Obama struck the right tone in addressing the events, and while I don't expect everyone else to toe the line, it's not a bad standard to emulate. (At least while in a very obvious public venue.)

Biden and others are painfully aware of what the consequences would have been if Trump had been killed on that stage. The rabid, ridiculously over-armed MAGA cohort would have torn this country apart. And any violence and damage they would have inflicted would have been verbally sanitized for history because "White people don't riot."

As horrible a waking nightmare as this current cultural moment is, Trump's death in such a manner would have made things into a societal Hiroshima. My personal preference would be for Trump to be struck down by lightening while he is saying something particularly blasphemous and self-aggrandizing. And even then his Bible humping followers would blame Biden.

I am simply offering my assessment of what I think the MAGA cult would have done if their idol had been martyred in living color right on national television.

This country survived an actual civil war and continued on its admittedly rocky path to fulfilling its promise of inherent human equality. We survived the Depression. We got through a world war which was fought on two fronts. We developed the most powerful weapon on the planet and DIDN't use it to impose our absolute will on the rest of humanity.

I like our country and believe it its founding values even though we, as a people, continue to miss the mark on living up to those values. What matters is that we keep trying.

My concern now is that we have a large population of emotionally unintelligent citizens with an insane number of guns. That is a CONCERN, not a lack of faith.

a public apology is all that is needed. he was speaking for a lot of people with that comment. caution about violent rhetoric is warranted but being intimidated by the "Dems are the source of it all" projection/accusation is a mistake.

And they were advocating for real Americans and getting the vote out.

Dumbass... I'm reading the tour is on hold, but I would guess the guy is going to be out.

Just Jack Black solo.

Most likely they'll just suspend the tour and let any furor die down. He's not the only one making comments like that - some people are leaving a social media trail.

Really great dude. Shouldn't have said this on stage or in public. Huge mistake. Jack Black is a much bigger public figure than Glass is, he'll have no choice but to cut him loose.
