CHICAGO (AP) Thousands of activists are expected to converge on Chicago this week for the Democratic National Convention, hoping to call attention to abortion rights, economic injustice and the war in Gaza.
While Vice President Kamala Harris has energized crowds of supporters as she prepares to accept the Democratic nomination, progressive activists maintain their mission remains the same. Activists say they learned lessons from last months Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and are predicting bigger crowds and more robust demonstrations in Chicago, a city with deep social activism roots.
Who is protesting?
Demonstrations are expected every day of the convention and, while their agendas vary, many activists agree an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war is the priority. Things are set to kick off Sunday on the conventions eve with an abortion rights march along iconic Michigan Avenue.
Organizer Linda Loew said even though Democrats have pushed to safeguard reproductive rights at home, the issue is international. They will march in solidarity with people everywhere who struggle for the right to control what happens to their bodies, as well as to protest the money the U.S. spends to back wars that could be used for healthcare, she said.

Am guessing the media made a conscious decision not to cover them (like they made a conscious decision not to release those hacked Roger Stone files), and they were a distance away.

(504 posts)The poll shows ... 62 percent of respondents who voted for President Biden in 2020 agree with the statement, The US should stop weapons shipments to Israel until Israel discontinues its attacks on the people of Gaza, while just 14 percent disagree. Twenty-four percent of self-identified Biden voters remain unsure.
...30 percent of Trump voters support halting US weapons shipments, while a majority (55 percent) oppose, and another 15 percent say they are unsure. Among those who did not vote in the 2020 presidential elections... fully 60 percent agreed that the US should block weapons shipments, while just 17 percent disagreed and 23 percent remained unsure.

(33,424 posts)What a push poll. "its attacks on the people of Gaza". Israel is attacking Hamas, not the people of Gaza. Or do you equate the two? And BTW are you willing to push 38% of the people who voted for Biden into the Republican camp? I doubt Harris is willing to do that.

(7 posts)Is the image of the antisemites, anarquista, pro terrorism , pro sharia law , communists so called activists making chaos during the convention . Many independents will see this caos and may relate the caos to the democrats and the so called open borders policies and may stop Kamala momentum.
These anarquistas are so annoying , they so should move to Iran, Gaza or North Korea to see how wonderful life is there, grrrrrrrr
