Apalachee school shooter suspect questioned for threats in 2023

Source: WSAV News 3

JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV)—FBI Atlanta and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) released a joint statement about their response in May 2023 to tips of threats of a school shooting from the 14-year-old arrested for the Apalachee High shooting on Wednesday.

The statement from FBI Atlanta and JCSO said that in May 2023, the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center received several anonymous tips about online threats to commit a school shooting at an unidentified location and time. They said that the online threats contained photographs of guns.

The FBI said that within 24 hours, they determined the online post originated in Georgia and the FBI’s Atlanta Field Office referred the information to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for action. The Jackson County Sheriffs’ Office located a possible subject, a 13-year-old male, and interviewed him and his father.

Wonder what he did over the summer

I’d bet the parents are in for trouble and there will be lawsuits

I wonder, suing the gun manufacturer is one thing, the gun seller another
But can you sue the homeowners insurance company as well? I mean they made us get rid of a trampoline for liability

That would shake things up

I wonder how many of these visits the FBI makes each year.

Short answer- yes

Caveats- first liability must be proven under the terms of the policy. Second, the insurance company is only responsible up to the limit of the liability listed on the policy and excess coverage (if any).

Most homeowners' policies have under $500k liability coverage, perhaps as little as $100k.

...or, as Lawrence O'Donnell puts it, the GOP wants to make sure that mass killers in the US are the best-equipped on earth.

Or close to that.

8. How many times will it take to develop a "future school shooter" profile?

Not that I support turning the world into "1984" or "Minority Report". But how many more missed opportunities will there be before violent threats become recognized for the future indicators of violent behavior they are? The Parkland and Sandy Hook shooters had priors (mental health or legal).

11. Mom and Dad didn't take any action, apparently.

It's primarily on them. They knew and still provided access to an MSSA - although their little psychopath may have circumvented whatever precautions they took.

We don't know who else was alerted. The FBI may not be able to alert the school or local authorities because rules.
