'Pablo' deaths, damage keep climbing more than 10 days after storm struck

MANILA, Philippines -- The death toll and damage estimates from typhoon Pablo continued to climb more than 10 days after it made landfall over eastern Mindanao on December 4.
Saturday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported a death toll of at least 955 as of Saturday morning, with 841 more still missing and 2,662 injured.
Damage to agriculture and infrastructure was estimated at P16.9 billion.
Only 573 of the dead have been identified so far

(12,336 posts)My wife and step daughter are Filipinas and while the area they come from wasn't affected, they still know people from the stricken area. I also have a friend who lives near the Mindanao area.

(975 posts)Daily we see helicopters flying in supplies and I assume searching for more victims. As hard as the wind blew here in Pantukan only 70 or 80 miles away the wind from the storm must have been like being inside a massive tornado. The search for survivors continues. I hope the government is able to help those in need, but the corruption in the Philippines means that those that have money are the ones that will be getting help first. Sad to say, and Manny Pac man is purported to have made 1 billion pesos from his boxing loss, just to put this in perspective the average wage of a worker here is short of 4,000 pesos a month. That works out to about $100 dollars, a month. Talk about sad.
