Police arrested a high school student in Bartlesville, Okla. Friday for allegedly plotting a school massacre involving guns and bombs, the Tulsa World writes. Bail was set at $1 million.

The paper reports:

“Sammie [Eaglebear Chavez] tried to recruit other students to assist him with carrying out a plan to lure students into the school auditorium where he planned to begin shooting them after chaining the doors shut,” Bartlesville Police Lt. Kevin Ickleberry wrote in the affidavit, which was filed in Washington County District Court.

“He also told them that if the students assisting him did not do what they were supposed to do, he would not hesitate to kill them and/or himself.”

Police were notified of the plot Thursday afternoon by school administrators who had been told of the alleged plan by another student, the affidavit states. Chavez had told the students he would place bombs by the auditorium doors and that when police arrived, he would detonate them.

People all of a sudden were very polite in their driving.

One small way to break the cycle is to make absolutely sure that bullying is not taking place in schools.

Take away one reason these killers have to be pissed off at the world.

While I don't believe bible verses should be in school, sorry Huck, I have no problem with teaching the Golden Rule.

The golden rule concept long predates the bible. It goes back to ancient Babylon, Confucius, ancient Egypt, several Greek philosophers, Buddhism and a host of others. It's philosophical concept has been one of the oldest in human history. It was borrowed by Christianity in later texts dating from about 200ACE, and the name "Golden Rule" was coined in the 1670's.

It's an ancient and beautiful, tried and proven philosophy.

Did those 20 babies at Sandy Hook Elementary School bully Adam Lanza? What about the 6 teachers and Adm's, did they bully him? Hell no, they didn't.

Did the nearly 150 people (including many babies) in a nursery school, bully Timothy McVeigh? Hell no, they didn't.

9. Is Salon trying to profit from hysteria? The story clearly

says that "Chavez had acquired a Colt .45 pistol," and later that he was searching for another kind, Yet they top the story with a picture of three rifles that have nothing to do with the case, with no information at all that says he had even one. The Tulsa World story had roughly the same info without the pics, at least in my browser.

But they do resemble the one's allegedly used in CT. Are they hoping to provoke another, or just make some money off of dead and dying children by introducing phony and emotional information, pictures of the type used in the shooting later?

While I realize sensationalism sells, maybe part of the reason we can't stop this is because media outlets are speaking out of both sides of their face, making money in either direction.

Bartlesville (a place the spell checker is apparently not aware of) is a nice little town, built with old oil money. My dad lived there during the Depression years, and since his dad was a viciously mean drunk, he often went to sleep in the sand traps at the old golf course to stay out of range.

Such blatant lack of empathy and disregard for human life is either taught, or, if not taught, should be obvious to parents who choose willful blindness instead. Licenses for parents would clear up lots of these problems with violence.

PS That never would have been a feature of Oceania. In Oceania, Big Brother and the Party were far more important to raising you than were your parents. Their failure would not have impacted you at all. Here in the US of 2012, with our nuclear families, if your parents screw up at raising you, there is a pretty good chance you won't have enough interaction with other adults to be properly socialized. You may be doomed.

Children still lived with their parents in Oceania, that's why they were busy spying on them.

17. Yes, they lived with perents, but there was no need for parent licensing.

Big Brother and the Party controlled the children's thoughts. So the quality of the parenting was totally irrelevant. No need for good parents because the Party was there to indoctrinate the kids. And the kids could be relied upon to turn in any parents guilty of unorthodoxy.
