CIA accused of misleading bin Laden filmmakers with interrogation claims

Top US politicians have accused the CIA of misleading the makers of the Osama bin Laden raid film 'Zero Dark Thirty' by allegedly telling them that harsh interrogation methods helped track down the terrorist mastermind.

The film shows waterboarding and similar techniques as important, if not key, to finding bin Laden in Pakistan, where he was killed by Navy SEALs in 2011.

A Senate Intelligence Committee investigation into the CIA's detainee programme showed that such methods produced no useful intelligence, but the CIA's acting director, Michael Morell, recently contradicted that finding.

In a statement to employees last month, he said that while the film was wrong to depict harsh techniques as key to finding bin Laden, those interrogations did produce some useful intelligence.

These filmmakers didn't care, they were out to make exactly the propaganda the CIA wanted in the first place. Like they didn't know the justification for torture is factually bullshit. They're happy to justify torture and anything else the Great Patriotic CIA does. This is why they were allowed the access. And all this bogus yang-yanging about the precious secrets thus released is part of the show, of course.

2. Just read The Black Banners...

The Black Banners by Ali H. Soufan pretty much tells it all. The "enhanced interrogation", otherwise known to rational man as "torture", actually set us back in gathering intelligence.

I bought and read the book some time back when I heard him being interviewed on NPR, and it's an amazing insight into what happened with the FBI and CIA, and how the bush/cheney administration literally jumped in the fire with their eager thirst for blood, and insisted on water boarding and many other methods of torture to gain what they wanted to put out to the public. Plain and simple.

They got the prisoners to admit that even in the Middle East, the sky is blue, water is wet and the day has 24 hours. After that, I wouldn't say it got anything of use.

Their primary job is creating alternate realities around the world; ya know kinda like what GOP Faux News Cable has done to President Obama for the past 4 years. 6. "Some useful intelligence?"

So, some of it was just "useful," but what exactly is a secret, and even if I wasn't, revealing it would violate the victim's privacy rights and by the way, "we don't torture" we attain willing cooperation through the targeted application of enhanced interrogation techniques.

One of the seldom mentioned but serious concerns of this should be the doublespeak, debasement and otherwise sanitizing of language.

9. Just seeing the trailer and the PR.

.... surrounding this film is enough for me to write it off as dramatic propaganda. Now everyone is slinging crap everywhere trying to justify some of the central message of the film.

I'll pass on this piece of crap.
