Newtown GOPer to Gabby Giffords: “Stay out of my towns!!”
Source: Salon
A state legislator in Connecticut called Giffords' visit to the area "political"
BY JILLIAN RAYFIELD
Connecticut State Rep. DebraLee Hovey, a Republican who represents the towns of Monroe and Newtown, objected to a visit by Gabrielle Giffords with the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook shootings, telling Giffords in a Facebook post: Stay out of my towns!!
The Hartford Courant flagged the post, from Friday, which has since been taken down. In the comment thread, Hovey continued: It was political. The Lt Gov was there, [Connecticut Sen. Richard] Blumenthall was there and ALL political types KNOW it is courteous to let sitting Reps known when another political is in their District. So
. There was pure political motives.
As Daily Intel points out, the visit was announced in advance.

But I really think they've reached absolute zero this time.

With that said, from experience, clearly she was educated in the Monroe Public School system.

(179 posts)That is the problem with the world today, stoopid representatives (I won't call them leaders) voted in by unenlightened (I won't call them dumb?) people who choose not to do the necessary research, but would rather listen to an idiot who is only in it for the money tell them how to vote! Pitiful!!!
And who does this hurt? EVERYONE

(8,492 posts)...to teach a hunting class to 6 year olds, I'm sure Ms. Hovey would have a parade. Of course, it wouldn't be considered political because she's no longer in politics. Oh...wait.

(16,887 posts)What an ass! Besides, what right or business does he have questioning her meeting with these families? Isnt it up to them to decide who they wish to meet with? Do the good people of Monroe & Newtown have to seek their representatives approval before meeting people???

(76 posts)Hovey represents approx. 1000 people in Newtown...perhaps no more than 5% of the population. She doesn't speak for us, and barely represents a fraction of us.
Not that surprised with her attitude...she's got a long running feud with her neighbors on Fan Hill Road in Monroe over multiple issues. Doesn't appear that they were handled with any more tact than she has expressed here.

(179 posts)Perhaps I missed something, but I don't understand what she calls "her towns"- meaning plural! Can someone tell me what she meant.
Does it mean, any town that she represents is "HERS"?? That would also mean that she can allow or not allow someone she doesn't like to visit the township.
True control issues I think!
