Tactical Response CEO Lists False Firearms Training Credentials Online, State Says

Source: TPM

EVAN MCMORRIS-SANTORO 5:38 PM EST, THURSDAY JANUARY 10, 2013

James Yeager, the CEO of Tactical Response who recently said "I'm gonna start killing people" if President Obama takes executive action on gun violence, advertises his services as a firearms instructor with a long list of state and federal certifications. One of the more prominent claims is innacurate, according to Tennessee law enforcement.

On his personal website, Yeager's Corner, Yeager says he's a "TN Department Of Safety Certified Firearms Instructor." But Dalya Qualls, a spokesperson for the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, told TPM that's just not the case.

"I have confirmed with our Handgun Unit that Mr. Yeager is not a Department of Safety and Homeland Security certified handgun instructor and Tactical Response is not a department certified school," Qualls said in an email.

Though Yeager lists himself as a "firearms instructor," Qualls told TPM he is not certified by the department and that there is no such certification offered.

He's also a bit lacking in the "tactical" department...

Apparently Yeager worked as a security contractor in Iraq, drove into an ambush, immediately forgot how to drive the manual transmission car, bailed out, spent the firefight wetting himself in a ditch whilst the rest of his team fought back, and then afterwards killed two civilians for good measure:

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1110003,00.html

"Yeager 'punched the gas to the floor and the engine raced, but the car stayed stationary.' The ex-cop had forgotten that the car he was driving had a manual shift, and had failed to engage the clutch or the gears."
...
"Surette continued firing until he passed out from loss of blood, while Yeager, unable to see the attackers, blasted away pointlessly at a barricade before running to take cover in a ditch on the opposite side of the road."
...
"In the confused aftermath of the firefight, a vehicle headed toward the group from behind. Fearing the worst, Yeager fired into the car, hitting two people. Mark thinks they were civilians, but Yeager is certain they were 'a clean-up crew of insurgents, coming to finish us off.'"

I saw a crawler under one of the new shows today (CNN I think) that said "The NRA has claimed 100,000 new members since the Sandy Hook shootings". Is any organization keeping track of the membership in other groups, such as Gabby Gifford's' new PAC for Responsible People.
The reason I think this is important is the continuing effort by the NRA to claim that they represent bazillions of US citizens in the gun control/gun safety debate. I think we may have more members joining organizations that oppose the NRA positions.

Thu Jan 10, 2013, 10:21 PM
Jan 2013

Sept 98. Then promoted to Chief of Police until being fired in May 2000.. I live in TN and knew Big Sandy wasn't that big so I looked it up. Big Sandy has about 600 residents. In 2011 they had one police officer. Prior to that they had 2(records go back to 2011).

Crime stats for last year reported 2011.
Murder 0
Rape 0
Robbery 0
Assault 0
Burglary 1
Theft 2
Auto Th 0
Arson 0

So his claim that as Chief of Police "he trained and led the County’s first Tactical Team " may be technically accurate, the reality is his team was him and maybe one other guy. Ofcourse if he really did have a dog, and he trained that dog as part of his "tactical team" then you can maybe say they had a 3 person team. Ofcourse based on the fact that there were 3 crimes, I'm kinda thinkin' that's overkill. Gosh, you can't make this stuff up. Hopefully tomorrow we'll find out if he really worked for the Benton Co. Sheriff's Dept.
