Virginia Tech shootings leave 2 dead
Virginia Tech says a police officer and a second victim have been shot and killed on the campus, where 32 students and faculty died in a 2007 rampage that was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
Authorities are seeking a suspect at the Blacksburg, Va., university. A campus-wide alert tells students and faculty to stay inside and lock doors.
A law enforcement official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case, said initial reports indicated that the shooting occurred following a traffic stop.

The suspect is described as a white male wearing grey sweat pants, grey hat with neon green brim, maroon hoodie and backpack.

(9,992 posts)apparently, a Virginia Tech police officer was shot while making a routine traffic stop. The shooter was NOT the person in the stopped vehicle but a white male that walked up on the scene. He then fled on foot and a person matching his description was spotted by other officers nearby shortly thereafter. When they got to the area where they'd seen him, they found him dead.
They won't definitively confirm it yet, but they are strongly hinting that the suspect committed suicide. The campus is no longer on lock down and a candlelight vigil will be held tonight at 8pm.

(50,326 posts)It is very helpful to the closure of the 'late breaking news' aspect even though there are questions yet unanswered as to why the death of the officer, Crouse, is still unknown. Sad story all around, imo.
