White House calls NRA ad "repugnant and cowardly"
Source: Reuters
"Most Americans agree that a president's children should not be used as pawns in a political fight. But to go so far as to make the safety of the president's children the subject of an attack ad is repugnant and cowardly," White House spokesman Jay Carney said

The NRA is the enemy. If you send money to the NRA or support the NRA, you too are the enemy.

(17,108 posts)every decent human being- needs to recoil in disgust against the threats the NRA has made against President Obama's daughters Malia and Shasha.
It's time to disarm these NRA terrorists and stand up, as a nation, against them.

(19,458 posts)there was that kindly retired psychologist who took in 6 little kids from the Sandy Hook shooting, after they arrived on his driveway saying that their teacher was shot. He calmed them down and cared for them until their parents came. He was featured in the media, and was clearly devastated by the shooting. The extreme gun lobby and fans have decided that the man was "in on the conspiracy" and that Sandy Hook was done by the govt or multiple shooters, to use as a flashpoint so Obama could take their guns. Now? The poor man has been receiving tons of death threats, threatening calls, messages. They have posted pics of his home, with his address, and pics of his family.
As if the rational people out there don't get EXACTLY what those people, and now the NRA are trying to make happen. It's obvious, and it's sick. The NRA needs to have their tax status revoked, and LaPierre needs to be in jail.

(32,080 posts)So does every single one of those assholes who called this man and threatened him. Ditto for this college professor who started this bullshit about the shooting being faked. And, every talk radio/TV host who is also purveying this shit.

(7 posts)considering the sorts of armed personal the gun-nuts say will protect schools. Joe Arpaio, a popular Arizona sheriff and outspoken gun-rights advocates, says that he will organized an armed posse of volunteers to protect his county's schools (i.e. underempoyed gun enthusiasts). Others have suggested that custodians be armed.
Also, looking at the Fort Hood incident, more guns does not guarantee safety.

(37,449 posts)no post allows soldier to walk around with weapons when not needed. The shooter came from an off base apt where he had the weapons. You knew that didn't you, and you know the miltiary has regulations against personal weapons being carried. Had the Major been living in government housing on base he wouldn't have had access to them, they would have been secured. Had the gate guards completely search each vehicle the weapons probably wouldn't have gotten onto the post. A civilian no matter what is prohibited from carrying on post. The shooter was stopped by those carrying on their duties, the military police.. But you knew all this before you decided to post.
Since the shooting all personally owned weapons now must be registered with the military police. I know in some case the even secure them, that is dependant on the base commanders rules.

(49,001 posts)Threats against Obama are running four time (4x) higher than against any previous president. His family has been specifically threatened.
Any family members in a family receiving that quantity of death threats and threats of harm should receive the same protection.
99.99 % or higher of other children, not so much.

(19,458 posts)I've never seen anything like this... they've gone completely insane. I KNOW that it's because the $$$$$$ that comes from selling the millions of weapons that NRA has been pushing with their fear-mongering tactics. The NRA is not about membership and a love of guns, it's about $$$$ for the manufacturers. It's simply the PR department for them. They cause panic in the angry old paranoids, so they buy more weapons. People are bemoaning the rise in gun crimes since 2008, well... they refuse to acknowledge the one FACT that is out there: The gun lobby and their talking heads, have whipped up a paranoid frenzy that has resulted in an insane number of new guns purchased in the US. The guns are not making anyone safer, they are making it more unsafe.
The NRA needs to lose their tax free status NOW. I'm tired of subsidizing fuckheads like that.

(16,296 posts)I wondered about the dramatic increase in guns and ammunition. It just seems contrary to what should be happening - then it struck me, this is nothing more than entrepreneurs taking advantage of a tragedy. They are stockpiling to sell the rifles and ammunition someday in the future in the black market which is sure to come about. Buy a few rifles for a few thousand today, sell them for profit in the future. It's just a commodity, like the gold they are hiding under the floorboards.

(4,062 posts)They are morally bankrupt buffoons and the absolute worst bottom feeders in the country. That NRA ad smacked of desperation. When they resorted to it, it showed a lot of fence sitters just what pile of dung they'd drop into if they jump to the NRA side.
But let's use a little bit more "logic" to work our way through this conundrum.
Those poor dead kids who you're so worried about being exploited? They're onstage politically cause some gun toting freak killed them with guns that are only available because of 40 years of unrelenting NRA lobbying efforts paid for with NRA dues. It doesn't matter what the shooters mental state was. It matters on who made the guns available. That would be the NRA.
The president's kids? They're onstage because the NRA is feeling some political heat and resorted to a cheap stunt. One that even you admit has no basis in logical need.
Bottom line it. Who exploits (and kills) children? The NRA. Enough with the sophistry, people have had enough.

(10,597 posts)... and those were the nice words they agreed upon before Carney came out for the presser. God, I'd give anything to have been a fly on the wall. I wouldn't put it past someone to have put something through the wall, like a fist. You know, every time they open their mouths, they embolden PO and VPB. Every time, they become more and more determined to do what needs to be done.
