Hummer found at drug house may be tied to missing Fox executive

Source: Chicago Tribune

Los Angeles County sheriff's homicide detectives have found a Hummer they sought in the disappearance of missing 20th Century Fox executive Gavin Smith outside a marijuana grow house in Granada Hills.

Detectives took the vehicle Wednesday after federal drug agents investigating the grow house notified them of the vehicle's presence.

The vehicle is registered to John Creech, a convicted drug dealer whose wife had ties to Smith and whose West Hills home was searched in June 2012 as part of the investigation, sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore confirmed. Investigators were expected to use a search warrant to examine the vehicle's interior for evidence.

Whitmore said authorities have been looking for the Hummer since the search of Creech's home and believe it may be tied to Smith's disappearance.

Pretty bad for his wife, who says she can't stand to bring in his belongings that are still on her porch. Whatever happened, he seems to have been a busy person. Wonder if he's left the country...

My hunch is that the answer lies with John Creech. He appears to both have a strong motive as well as the ability to kill.

3. You think it's just about the affair and not money? Seems like there was a bit of money involved.

I'm still thinking he's alive somewhere. We may never know what happened.

7. I think it is the affair, and possible drugs and money too

Drugs and money go together. From an article I read a couple of months ago, John Creech is something of a drug kingpin...so I think money could very well be involved.

I read Gavin was entwined in drugs. I got the impression he was primarily a consumer.

possessions from work outside on her porch a bit odd. I know there is denial, but if she actually has left them out there for months, that's not a normal thing to do. But each person reacts differently, I'm not accusing her of anything, speculating like anyone else.

This could be a scam where a person who is reportedly missing and dead and is hiding out to escape being arrested for a crime. But until he's declared dead, she won't get his insurance, or whatever he had in place to take care of the family.

Whatever it is, looks as if Creech isn't going to give anyhing away. Drug deal gone wrong? Were they high? A damned shame, no matter what it turns out to be. Mysterious goings on.

11. My sense is that Gavin is probably dead. I think in this case no news is bad news.

I imagine it gets messy if your a drug kingpin and trying to keep a big guy like Gavin hidden. So perhaps John Creech and his buddies got rid of him. ??

Again from what I have read - Gavin's wife is having a hard time financially and is having trouble holding on to the home. I thought it was odd that his wife left his possessions on the porch too. When I heard that I wondered if she did so as her way of consciously or unconsciously expressing her anger with him for his behavior and betrayal.

The other interesting aspect of the story is that there has been some estrangement between Gavin's wife and Gavin's sister about what information should be given to the public. I got the sense that Gavin's sister believes that the public has too much information and it is reflecting Gavin in a poor light. I think if they want the public's help on this case they have to come clean on Gavin's lifestyle. I think the wife is willing to do so, not so sure about his sister.

about the way a person on drugs can plow through sums of money that would be a fortune to an average working person.

I am still amazed remembering people I'd worked with who were into 'snorting' cocaine. They seemed intelligent, healthy, happy people but took their pleasures and their version of 'the good life' seriously.

I recounted the story of the guy I worked with personally, who lost his job over it. I enjoyed working with him. He was born with a 'silver spoon in his mouth' as the saying goes, family giving him all kinds of breaks and money. His parents matched every dollar he made, when he worked he made double. He had a nice home, vehicles, maid, stocks, bonds, trust fund and all paid by dad.

Not hurting for anything, yet, he got into this lifestyle. The last week I saw him, he'd been let go for refusing to come to work on Mondays, and given well over ten grand by our company to just go away. He blew it in a couple of days and came to ask for his job back, but they wouldn't take him back and I never saw him again.

Gavin may have been a consumer and his life out of control. It seems like it would advantage Creech to keep the money coming in if he was supplying the drugs. But perhaps Gavin was broke and of no use, or they may have had a wild party and things got out of hand. It's a terrible waste, though. I feel bad for those he left behind.

The one they found is registered to a guy who's wife MIGHT have had an affair with him.

The cops are operating on the theory that a jealous husband used the vehicle to transport the body.
