New York TV anchor resigns after wife-choking accusation

Source: CNN

A news anchor for WCBS in New York City has resigned following allegations that he choked his wife in their Connecticut home, a WCBS spokeswoman said Wednesday.

The anchor, Rob Morrison, said in a statement released Wednesday that his "family is my first and only priority right now."

"I have informed CBS 2 management that I need to put all of my time and energy into making sure that I do what's best for my wife and my son," Morrison said. "I very much appreciate the opportunity that CBS 2 has given me and I thank them for accepting my decision."

Morrison was taken into custody early Sunday at the Darien home he shares with his wife, CBS MoneyWatch anchor Ashley Morrison, police said. He was arrested and accused of choking his wife with both hands after becoming "increasingly belligerent ... during the course of the evening," a Darien police statement said.

Sadly, we live in a nation whose legislative body won't even re-authorize the Violence Against Women Act because of stupid men legislators who would laud Morrison's behavior.

She apparently tried to convince the police nothing of significance happened. It was her mother who called the police.

Police officers arrived at the Morrisons’ home in Darien, Conn., about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday after receiving a call from Ms. Morrison’s mother.

“Upon arrival, it was ascertained that Morrison had been becoming increasingly belligerent toward his wife during the course of the evening, culminating in his choking her by the neck with both hands,” the Darien Police Department said in a statement.

commented on his smirk. As soon as I saw this image the first time when the story broke ... that was all I could see was that smirk.

I feel badly for his wife but my thoughts are with their son. Wonder how many nights he was awake and heard his father yelling at his mother. I truly hope the boy and his mother move away ... very far away.
