Ed Markey Wins Massachusetts Democratic Senate Primary

Last edited Tue Apr 30, 2013, 10:34 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: HuffPo

BOSTON -- Businessman and former Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez and veteran U.S. Rep. Edward Markey will face each other in a special election in Massachusetts for the U.S. Senate seat previously held by John Kerry.

Unofficial returns show Markey won the Democratic nomination in a primary on Tuesday and Gomez won the Republican nod.

Markey defeated fellow U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch. Gomez won a three-way primary against former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan and state Rep. Daniel Winslow.

Markey has served in the U.S. House since 1976 and is the dean of the state's congressional delegation. He had the early backing of Kerry, who resigned from the Senate to become U.S. secretary of state.

I didn't see any voting numbers in the HuffPo article.
I realize the primary numbers will be different from a regular election, but would find them interesting.

I would be very interested in the numbers and turnout of both parties

offyear offseason elections are so unpredictable you can't be sure Markey will win June 25 even though he is well known and liberal and more in tune with most of the state's residents. After that creep Scott Brown pulled an upset, I'm always nervous about these elections

I had the feeling they would run about as this reveals.
About 3 to 1 Dem to Repub.
Sounds good.

my prediction is that the united GOP here in MA will get lots of money, from out of state especially, to bolster their candidacy

turnout for june 25 is anyone's guess (students in boston area and elsewhere are on vacation) and we DON'T want another creepy "great guy" like Scott Brown in there

He has always been on the right side of every issue that is dear to my heart. What little I get to read of him all the way over here in fly over land that is. I like the guy, I trust him. I want him to win this one so bad. He and Elizabeth will be good for the people of Massachusetts as well as the 99% of the rest of us.
