Officer: Suspect arrested in Texas base shooting

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — San Antonio police have arrested a gunman in a shooting at Fort Sam Houston.

A San Antonio police officer says police arrested a gunman Monday afternoon and turned him over the military authorities. The officer was speaking anonymously because the person was not authorized to speak to the media.

Kathy Salazar, a staff member in the base public affairs office, said the Fort Sam Houston was on lock down. She could not immediately offer additional details.

A San Antonio television station showed one person taken away in an ambulance, but it was not immediately clear who was injured or how.

FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas -

A suspect was taken into police custody Monday afternoon in connection with a shooting at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston that left a woman wounded.

According to a statement issued by Fort Sam Houston officials, the shooting occurred around 2:50 p.m.

According to a retired sergeant major who still works on the post, the shooting happened at the Army Medical Department Center and Schools, where military medics are trained.

The suspect fled in a gold Mitsubishi sedan but was apprehended by police on the post.
