Rose Holds Off Mickelson for U.S. Open Title

Source: New York Times

When Justin Rose had hit his last real shot, leaving a lovely little fairway-metal chip on the lip of the 18th hole on Sunday, he looked to the sky as if it had just rained a shower of relief. A crazy final round of a crazy United States Open was finally over, and Rose could finally exhale. He had wobbled through two bogeys in the final five holes, but still clung to a one-shot lead as he held his nerves at bay for that final relief-inducing par.

He tapped in and wiped away tears. His first major championship then only required him to wait through two more holes by Phil Mickelson, who was trying to pull nothing short of a miracle out of his bag to avoid his sixth second-place finish at an Open, a run of disappointment that has clouded his otherwise spectacular career.

Mickelson failed again and Rose could exhale again. His breakthrough major had not come easily in any way.

He said it was not lost on him that Sunday was Father’s Day and he thought of his father Ken, who died of leukemia in 2002.

I don't know anything about golf. I don't know anything about Justin Rose.

But I do know that Phil Mickelson is a right-wing prick who despises the President and the poor.

5. Mickelson grew up in CA with all the benefits the state has to offer

and now wants to move out because he's bringing in $60M/year, and would have to pay $12M in state taxes.

The CA budget will still be balanced long after Phil and his whiney ass are gone. Good riddance.

Most successful golfers are right-wingers, since they have all that money to cuddle.

Alas, my poor 87-year-old mother loves Phil, and she was quite sad that he failed again.

Myself, I was just happy to see Merion beat up everyone in the field. The US Open is for schadenfreude.

Whiney-assed POS lose out again.........so he can just think of all of those thousands of tax dollars that he doesn't have to pay now. I always liked him until he opened his mouth and let everyone know that he is just another one of those who want to steal from the working class so that he can live the life of leisure. Pay up, you puke.

Even among weekends where Mickelson plays extrodinarily great rounds early in the tournament, Mickelson has a choke record that rivals most...

Why don't you move to Syria Phil? No tax burden there.
