In VFW speeches, Paul condemns some foreign aid and McConnell criticizes Obama
Source: Lexington Herald-Leader
OUISVILLE U.S. Sen. Rand Paul railed against foreign aid Monday to any dictatorship and the Muslim Brotherhood in a speech at the national VFW Convention.
"Common sense tells us that we shouldn't be sending foreign aid to nations that burn our flag," Paul said to an enthusiastic crowd.
Paul, R-Bowling Green, also said Congress should vote before any American support is given to rebels trying to overthrow the Syrian government.
The U.S. is getting too involved in civil wars around the world, he said.

(15,369 posts)You just send everyone else's family members to the wars for which you fabricate reasons out of thin air. Then you and your cronies rake away the spoils. You even try as best you can to take away the benefits of those who did actually serve.
And you keep on getting away with it because you've dumbed down the education system and waved the flag of patriotism to drown out anyone who dares to speak out against you.
Both Paul & McConnell are prime examples of this hypocrisy. The sad thing is that they were ever elected in the first place. What is even sadder is that idiots like them - or worse - will probably keep on getting elected.
It's not just every election cycle that we have to keep working. It's ALL the time. The GOP started spreading their poison by working through evangelical churches in particular beginning in the late 60s. Most Dems never, ever, caught on and those of us who tried to say anything at the time were scoffed at. Plus the GOP's political purchasing power and gerrymandering have made it very difficult to defeat GOP candidates - even with good Dem candidates.
Howard Dean was one who did catch on, but there have been too few to fund and follow his strategies since he was DNC Chair. Dean's short tenure there had begun to make a difference, but since then Dems have fallen short again and gone back to the same short-term cyclical thinking instead of pressing his vision forward.
Yes, the GOP may be fracturing because of their own internal poison and it couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch. But I wouldn't count on Dems ever benefiting as much as we should from those fractures, in part because we have never been good at the lockstep philosophy that is the hallmark of the right wing. They turn our own liberalism and transparent fair-mindedness against us and we all too often play right into their hands.

(8,636 posts)Republicans have been screaming about furrin' aid as long as I can remember, and I'm (mumblety-mumble) years old (although people tell me I look younger!).
all the same as Issa. You notice when it comes to Israel, they say nothing. Israel doesn't want foreign Aid cut off from Egypt. Then there was the matter with PaKistan. You didn't hear them whining when George W. Bush was in office or the President was a Republican.
Well let me tell you what the Republican rightwingers aren't telling you. If they cut off their bribery money, they would lose influence in the World. They want be able to threaten any more countries to act a certain way or sanction anybody. If you take the bribery money from Egypt, then there would be no reason for them to keep their treaty with Israel or give you any rights to passage in the Suez Canal. That is what the Republicans are not telling their audiences.
