Tea Party Opponent Signals He'll Take on McConnell.
Source: nyt/ap
A tea party challenger signaled on Monday that he intends to take on Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell in next year's GOP primary in Kentucky.
Louisville businessman Matt Bevin's entry into the race would force a major shift in the McConnell campaign, which has been concentrating entirely on Democratic opponent Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky's 34-year-old secretary of state.
Bevin is scheduled to announce his plans on Wednesday at the state Capitol in Frankfort. Sarah Durand, a tea party activist and aide to Bevin, hinted at his political intentions Monday when she distributed a media advisory announcing that he would begin a three-day statewide tour after the announcement.
McConnell campaign manager Jesse Benton said the 46-year-old Bevin, a partner in the Louisville investment firm Waycross Partners, would be "nothing more than nuisance" if he runs.
University of Louisville political scientist Laurie Rhodebeck said she doesn't think Bevin can be dismissed so easily.

Siphon the votes away from McTurtle and make him look extremely week.
Fund the teabagger to make McTurtle spend the cash when he will be extremely low on the war chest come GE.

(11,495 posts)McConnell could be the first if a long line of republicans getting a tea party opponent come the primaries. I think Boehner has a good chance of seeing the same thing happen, along with a lot of other republicans who simply aren't "conservative" enough for the far right crazy wing of the party. I look forward to reading about more republicans having the same problem in the new future!
As for the comment by McConnell campaign manager Jesse Benton about this guy being a nuisance, well pissing of some crazy tea bagger is always a good way to start things off!

(130,940 posts)but its likely one of the reasons repugs have become so t-buggy and un-cooperative, making governing impossible; they're all trying to protect their turf.
And right again, pissing off those guys is a GREAT way to start!!!

(11,495 posts)I think a lot of repugs have "tried" to go over the dark side, the tea party side, but when push comes to shove there is nothing like the "real" thing to get the teabaggers all worked up and out to vote! They might not win the primary, but damn it will be a lot of fun watching those like McConnell try to win, without alienating themselves from the tea party nuts in order to beat a "tea party nut" in the primary. And of course you also have to wonder what will happen if they beat the tea party nut. Will the other teabaggers come out to vote in the main election, or will they just stay home since their guy didn't win the primary?
The GOP has painted itself into a corner. They can't win the primary without being a loony RW nut job. They can't win the general by being a loony RW nut job.
Everyone wins! Even the loony RW nut jobs, unfortunately.

(130,940 posts)The good part, IF kentucky went all the way with the 'new' guy, is that mcconnell has been such a f*****g p.o.s repug minority leader, they'd have to choose someone ELSE!

(3,056 posts)McConnell's talking points almost have to be how he's blocked all of Obama's Agenda, therefore having to admit that he's been blocking Obama's agenda.

(21,475 posts)He will not only "admit" he's been blocking Obama's agenda but will brag openly about doing so... Republicans actually feel in their hearts Democrats are the enemy and should be stopped at anything they propose..

(3,056 posts)They're quite proud to have "Obama Derangement Syndrome". But when they get in front of the cameras, it's all Obama's fault because he won't listen to them (in other words, roll over and do everything the way they want it done) or, he doesn't know how things really work, or his ideas are actually bad for us, or he's not really an American, or...ad infinitum. Usually by this time they've lit their hair on fire and are running around yelling "Benghazi". I'm just looking forward to him having to admit that the reason the Senate has become the cluster fuck it is, is because the Republicans want it that way. It's the only way he'll get past a Tea Party challenge.

(25,111 posts)McConnell is gonna be crazier than ever. These two will try and out do each other.
But if McConnell goes to far, how does he come back to get the "not so crazy" crowd? Of course he also has to win, so how far will he go to discredit the teabagger, and if he goes to far, and wins, how does he mend fences with the teabagger voters who voted for the other "clown"? I can hardly wait to find out how it all works out!

(10,820 posts)The fact is that the McConnel camp is probably terrified of Bevin after watching Dick Lugar across the Ohio River in Indiana get defeated by a Teabagger. Lugar appeared to be even more untouchable than McConnel, but he lost. The only reason Indiana does not have a Sen. Mourdock is because Mourdock offered that rape is something God intended.

(22,651 posts)Not intended to win. Watch how McConnells team only calls him a nuisance but dishes out no damaging issues at all.
A little Fucker Ralph Nader tactic in the works. If the Dems were smart they would start funneling money into that campaign. Divide and conquer. Go Teahadists.
Plus Kentucky Turtle is a worthless obstructionist bull shit monger, working for the 1%.
HE NEEDS TO GO!
