Gay marriage in California: State Supreme Court again rejects bid to halt nuptials

Source: San Jose Mercury News

For the second time in a week, the California Supreme Court has refused to halt same-sex marriages across the state while it considers the latest legal showdown over Proposition 8.

In a one-line order filed Tuesday, the justices rejected the San Diego county clerk's bid to restore California's same-sex marriage ban while they review a two-pronged effort to keep the 2008 voter-approved law on the books. The state's high court last week unanimously denied a similar request to immediately stop the marriages filed by Proposition 8's sponsors.

Ernest Dronenburg Jr., San Diego's clerk-recorder, brought his legal challenge last week, arguing that he should not have to obey the state's mandate that clerks throughout California now must issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples.

... The Supreme Court is not expected to decide the issue until at least sometime in August.

That would require them to continue to fight. Of course I prefer that they lose their fights. The continued string of losses is not unhelpful to the right side of things.

From California. They need to tend to their own state, of Utah and leave California alone.

Mormon Church, that came into California from Utah, and threw their large money around trying to make sure California didn't allow those gay marriages.

California 533,741

45% of donations came from outside of California.

Regardless, it was wrong what they did. Its also wrong to blame one group of people and misrepresent what happened.

Are Mormon, most likely received orders from their church to get this on the ballot. Still, the Church succeeded in passing Prop 8, and it was greatly supported by many Mormons. It was wrong and UTAH needs to stay the hell out of California's business.

Not Mormons. They helped the Catholic Church - who by the way organized it all, the Mormons helped with funding and manpower. The Catholic Church had way more to do with Prop 8 than the LDS. All off them were wrong but for some reason it's only acceptable to blaim the Mormons.

McDonald's hiring. Go work for them instead.

I also suggest that judges begin sanctioning them HEAVY fines for bringing up a dead horse. Repeatedly.

Were local assholes in small-town and southern city clerk's/Justice of the Peace offices fighting bitter-end campaigns like this to keep from having to marry interracial couples even after Scotus ruled on that one?

Please note: it's not the government doing this, it's private citizens organized over the Internet.

In the days right after Loving, a government official who was anti-interracial marriage would issue the license then call the local klavern to try to convince the couple to leave town.
