US general lays out military options in Syria

UN envoy still hopeful on peace plan

Afp, Washington

The top US general has informed Congress of options for military intervention in Syria, but stressed that the decision of whether to go to war was one for civilian leaders.

In a non-classified letter made public Monday, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey set out five options — from nonlethal intelligence and weapons training to a boots-on-the-ground plan to “assault and secure” the Syrian regime’s chemical weapons.

Saying he was mindful of ongoing deliberations over whether to intervene militarily against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, Dempsey wrote that such a decision is “a political one that our nation entrusts to its civilian leaders.”

But his letter — which was addressed to Senate Armed Services Committee chairman Carl Levin — also detailed risks, such as the empowering of extremists and retaliatory strikes by the regime.
“Once we take action, we should be prepared for what comes next,” he wrote. “Deeper involvement is hard to avoid.”

be killing others, but more young men and women dying for those war mongerors in Congress. Remember that letter from that dying vet that was supposed to have been for Bush and Cheney?

Think about those people in Congress and the Administration's excuse now. Assad is responsible for 90,000 of his people's deaths. according to Wiki over 25,000 of those are Syrian soldiers. Over 3,000 are Government officials. Another 17,000 or more are militia fighting for Assad.

Those Deaths includes car bombs, assasinations and we know about one being a child shot in front of his parents for Blasphemy. Saying Assad is responsible for 90,000 deaths is being deceitful, and condescending to the American people just to get into a War in Syria to cause more Deaths, but this time it will include innocent American soldiers too fighting for the wishes of arrogant politicians. There is only one word to describe this, we have some evil people in our Government.

The people that are being payed to murder innocent people as mercenaries are not the only evil ones. The man that ate the organs of a Syrian soldier tried to justify it by claiming they killed his family, but that is evil what he did. There is nothing that will make me eat the organs of another human being. Only beasts do that and it is inhuman. Putin was right. These are the same people that would starve people to win a war against Assad's troops. The same people they claimed to be saving. So you don't think these same people would also lie about using chemical weapons to start a war?

These are the people paid by Saudi Arabia and Qatar. They are Congresses' Allies. Congress and those in the Administration should be seperated from the American people because they don't follow our desires. Many of them have gotten rich in Congress as paid servants. They are the same people that would take food out of the mouths of their own citizens and throw their poor out on the streets.

Saudi Arabia has a military. Jordan has arm forces. Qatar has arm forces. Why does the politicians in Congress feel they need American military forces to save people in Syria? It is because they think the American people are dumb. It is because they want an excuse to get military forces on the ground for a wider War and control of the resources in that region. That is all Congress is about. They serve corporate interests and the wealthy. That is what they use our miltary for. It is not to protect us at all or human rights for the poor.

It would be so easily accomplished by decent lawmakers, people who haven't "lost" their "moral compasses".

Unbelievable how truly screwed up our government is right now.

Reading your list is like a dream! What we could do if things were set right in our country.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zionism

Zionism (Hebrew: ציונות?, Tsiyonut; Arabic: صهيونية?, Șahyouniyyah) is a form of nationalism of Jews and Jewish culture that supports a Jewish nation state in the territory defined as the Land of Israel.[1] Zionism supports Jews upholding their Jewish identity, opposes the assimilation of Jews into other societies and has advocated the return of Jews to Israel as a means for Jews to be a majority in their own nation, and to be liberated from antisemitic discrimination, exclusion, and persecution that had historically occurred in the diaspora.[1] Zionism emerged in the late 19th century in central and eastern Europe as a national revival movement, and soon after this most leaders of the movement associated the main goal with creating the desired state in Palestine, then an area controlled by the Ottoman Empire.[2][3][4] Since the establishment of the State of Israel, the Zionist movement continues primarily to advocate on behalf of the Jewish state and address threats to its continued existence and security. In a less common usage, the term may also refer to non-political, cultural Zionism, founded and represented most prominently by Ahad Ha'am; and political support for the State of Israel by non-Jews, as in Christian Zionism.

Defenders of Zionism say it is a national liberation movement for the repatriation of a dispersed socio-religious group to what they see as an abandoned homeland millennia before.[5][6][7] Critics of Zionism see it as a colonialist[8] or racist[9] ideology that led to the denial of rights, dispossession and expulsion of the "indigenous population of Palestine".[10][11][12][13]
