Government shutdown: House GOP to huddle at 2 p.m.

Source: Politico

House Republicans will head into a closed strategy meeting Monday at 2 p.m., 10 hours before the government will run out of money.

The gathering, in the Capitol basement, comes after a full morning of leadership meetings, where Republicans mulled how — and if — they will avoid a government shutdown.

The Senate is expected to reject House-passed legislation that would keep the government open until Dec. 15, but would also delay Obamacare for one year and repeal the medical device tax. The federal government shuts down at midnight if the Senate and House cannot agree on a funding bill. The House is mulling a response when the Senate defeats its government funding bill.

Leadership spent the morning considering their options, chatting about putting together a package that can garner 218 vote — the number of votes needed for the House to pass a bill.

Hmm, now why would the Republicans feel the need to offer another "compromise"?

Boehner simply offered a vote on the Senate version it would pass.

He's so terrified of losing his leadership position that he refuses to do anything without the fucknut teabaggger caucus signing off on it.

I honestly have no idea why he feels the need to hold his job. As it is he's the most ineffective Speaker of the House during my lifetime and quite possibly the worst in the history of the damned place.

But he's doing a damned fine job of sandbagging vital legislation that voters want, and he's doing it without any visible talent or charisma. The money that owns him might as well be in charge.

I think he's exactly the pathetic weakling his party's platform breeds.

I would pick among the dozens of relevant federal law enforcement operations within a mile of the Capitol, position them at every corner surrounding the Congressional parking garages, and clip every damned one of those weasels for DWIs and DIPs as they wander away from John Boehner's bar tonight (The Speaker's Lounge really is a huge, lavishly stocked bar inside of the Capitol building).

Locals might have the opportunity to catch 'em carrying the party over to the Hawk and Dove or Poli-Tiki, and the other Capitol Hill drinking holes where Congresscritters are known to get sloshed.

down to the basement: giggling, with their shoulders up, eyes wide open looking at each other, then finally bursting out laughing once they're in private.
