Venezuela Expels 3 US Diplomats

Source: Latin American Herald Tribune

CARACAS - Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro announced the expulsion of 3 US diplomats during a live speech to Venezuela soldiers commemorating 200 years since the day when Atanasio Girardot died fighting for Venezuela's independence.

Maduro asked Foreign Minister Elias Jaua to expel the 3 US diplomats, giving them 48 hours to leave the country.

Maduro accused the 3 unnamed US diplomats of meeting with the country's "right wing" to plan electricity system sabotage.

“We have sufficient evidence collected of the hostile, illegal and interventionist attitude of the officials,” Maduro said. “Out of Venezuela. Yankee, go home! Enough with the abuse.”

person online. She swears that there is toilet paper, electricity, and food. Seems she thinks I am a little loco for even asking these questions. But then again the American news is always right so I am sure she is lying while eating her chicken, typing on her laptop and possibly wiping her ass with toilet paper.
I will check with her later tonight after she comes back from her state provided university class.

then the content and jumped the gun perhaps. I don't doubt there are shortages. Hell we have a major drug shortage in the USA and it gets almost 0 notice. But hell it is always fun to point fingers at the commies and point out how horrible socialism is.

Venezuela expels top U.S. diplomat for fomenting 'sabotage'

By Brian Ellsworth and Eyanir Chinea
CARACAS | Mon Sep 30, 2013 6:51pm EDT

(Reuters) - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Monday he was expelling the top U.S. diplomat in the South American nation and two others, accusing them of meeting with opposition leaders and encouraging "acts of sabotage" against his country.

-snip-

He said Venezuela was expelling Kelly Keiderling, who as U.S. chargé d'affaires is the senior American diplomat in Venezuela because the United States has no ambassador to the country. According to a U.S. Embassy website, she has been assigned to Caracas since July 2011 as deputy chief of mission, and was temporarily serving as the charge d'affaires.

Venezuela identified the other two diplomats as Elizabeth Hunderland and David Mutt. The U.S. Embassy had no immediate comment or confirmation regarding the expulsions.

Or are you attempting to claim Democrats are commies? Republican assholes have been trying that since the days of drunken fool Joe McCarthy.

"Yeah, but he's anti US, so naturally that goes over really well here at the DU."

You are red-baiting here. You are distinctly out of place.

ever happened before. You'd think some diplomats were in cahoots with a spy agency or something. I remember reading an article about the different ways of using sabotage to create instability and some were very simple.

It's exactly the sort of thing that has been happening for many years. The US has a long history of undermining the will of the working class throughout Latin America and elsewhere. Why would anyone expect anything other than that?

Nicolas Maduro's claims of plots against his life dismissed
September 27, 2013

... The Venezuelan leader, who returned home September 25 from a state visit to China, said he learned of threats against him from ‘‘various sources’’ during a stopover in Vancouver on his way to New York and decided instead to head back to Caracas. Maduro would have addressed the annual General Assembly for the first time since becoming head of state following the death earlier this year of long-time President Hugo Chavez ...

21. The 3 September blackout seems to have produced political problems
Tue Oct 1, 2013, 03:35 AM
Oct 2013

Within less than four hours, Maduro had accused the opposition of causing the blackouts through sabotage. A day or so after, Energy Minister Chacón attributed the blackout to a transmission line failure; he later said a metal grille fell on the line, producing a short circuit, and attributed this to tampering. The opposition has claimed the blackout was caused by government incompetence and inadequate capacity. Maduro stationed special security to guard the lines

It seems to me unlikely that the diplomats would be involved in planning such petty vandalism as tampering with a grill in hopes it would fall on a power line: rightwing US administrations, willing to play realpolitick games, have generally had more grandiose aims than causing a single blackout

Moreover, destabilizing Venezuela doesn't seem to me to be Mr Obama's style. And Kelly Keiderling appears to be a career diplomat with real language skills, not a ideologue

So my best guess is that Maduro is trying to save his political skin with a showy distraction
