Mike Duggan sworn in as mayor of Detroit

Mike Duggan, a political bulldog with a knack for cutting deals, had sat at the Detroit mayors desk plenty of times in the past as a guest.
Today, he sat in the big leather chair behind the desk as Mayor of Detroit.
A smiling Duggan was officially sworn in as the 75th mayor of Detroit in a brief ceremony held inside his new 11th floor office at the Coleman Young Municipal Center today. Duggans wife, Lori Maher, and his father, U.S. District Judge Patrick Duggan, stood beside him as he raised his right hand and swore to serve the people of Detroit and uphold the Constitution.
The oath lasted just 10 seconds, but it was preceded by months of campaigning, several legal challenges, an opponent with a similar name, and a historic primary election that ended with Duggan winning as a write-in candidate and moving on to win the general election.
